R1: Anisimova/Knoll def. Christian/Olmos 7-5, 4-6, 6-3

First Grand Slam victory of Xenia's career.

You could really tell how much she wanted this!!!

Anisimova almost let her down with three straight double faults at 1-1 but they managed to bring it home.

This team could actually work out really well IMHO.

Knoll and Olmos had that endless crosscourt ballbashing rallye until after a felt 50 shots, Christian tried to charge in and got hit on the body by Xenia's backhand

How do these two even know each other? Seems like a very random pairing, especially since Amanda doesn't really play doubles.

Apparently, they only met 1 hour before the match for the first time.

How they ended up together? Did Xenia ask Amanda to play with her? I was watching the end of the match and you can easly saw how much this win meant for Xenia. She was really pumped up.

I saw her Insta story and she spoke in Romanish to Swiss press? I have never heard that language before.

Nope haha, that was Swiss German, not Rumantsch. Officially, this is German, but not really.

Amanda was entered with a Czech girl but did not make the cut, so Xenia texted her. They really personally met one hour before the match, but they apparently get along very well.

Anisimova is listed with Blinkova for Wimbledon though

Gotcha! It really doesn't sound like German to me and she is even subtitled haha. However, I am really glad for her.

I wished for Blinky to play with Xenia there, seeing as they won both Cagnes-sur-Mer and Trnava together .

Unless of course Anna Smith will make a comeback
