Mladenovic/Strycova within strike zone for doubles #1

Roland Garros will be the place to determine whether we will have a new #1 or not.

The two players named in topic have the chance to dethrone Katerina Siniakova, as Siniakova have 2,000 points to defend in Roland Garros.

As it stands with Roland Garros points off:

Code:
1 Siniakova 6540 (185)
2 Strycova 6485 (215)
3 Mladenovic 6165 (105)
Strycova may reach new career high at #2.

Scenarios will be as follows:

Code:
              R32 R16 QF SF F W
             +130 +240 +430 +780 1300 +2K
1 Siniakova 6540 6595 6785 7135 7655 8355
2 Strycova 6485 6510 6700 7050 7570 8270
3 Mladenovic 6190 6300 6490 6840 7360 8060
6 Mertens 6285 6805 7505
8 Barty 5862 6382 7082
9 Zhang 5440 5960 6660
To pass Siniakova,

2 Strycova needs a minimum of QF at Roland Garros.
3 Mladenovic needs a minimum of SF at Roland Garros.

Even if Mladenovic/Strycova fails to dethrone Siniakova at Roland Garros, another chance will present at Wimbledon.

Re: Mladenovic/Strycova within strike zone for doubles #1

I hope Barbie can do it! Especially since she'll probably drop quite far down in the singles at RG unless she miraculously makes the 2nd week again.

I'd still rather see her and SW go deeper in singles where they are still factors IMO, but if they stay together and keep on winning, I can definitely see Babs getting to #1 at Wimbledon if not RG. In London she's only defending R3 points from last year, and both she and SW have games that are better suited for grass.

She has a lot of points coming off in Asia where she and Sestini went on a good run last year though, so if she makes it it'd probably have to be before then.

As for Mlad, it will be tough with Babos' current form to go deep anywhere but you know she'll be extra motivated at RG.

Re: Mladenovic/Strycova within strike zone for doubles #1

With Krejcikova/Siniakova lost in first round of Roland Garros, now we will see how Barbora Strycova and Kristina Mladenovic fares.

Strycova and Mladenovic are in the same half of the draw, so they will inevitably meet in the Semifinals. If they do meet, whoever wins that match gains the #1. In other cases, Mladenovic must win one more round than Strycova in order to secure #1. However, they must pass Siniakova first.

Strycova is #1 if
1. She reaches Roland Garros QF and
2. Mladenovic is not in Roland Garros SF and
3. She must win the SF if her opponent is Babos/Mladenovic

Mladenovic is #1 if
1. She reaches Roland Garros SF and
2. Her opponent in the SF is not Hsieh/Strycova and Mertens/Sabalenka
3. She must win the SF if her opponent is Hsieh/Strycova and Mertens/Sabalenka must not win the title

Get it, Barbie

The (other) Czechs out! Not to be that person who cheers another's failures, but it would be such a huge deal to Barbie to finally become a #1 player.

She's always had the skills but until now hasn't had the partner(s). I love the mix of her intense energy pumping SW up, and then SW's zen presence calming Barbie down. All while playing tricky tennis. They only dropped one game in their R1 match (and hit about 10 lob winners), so hopefully they can keep playing that sort of tennis.

I've often wondered what she would've done with Benesova in this much weaker field.

cmon Barbs, this is your chance! She really deserves it, she has the game, the skills and she has always been so dedicated to doubles even when she's been at her singles peak... get that #1!

plus Babs/Hsieh is one of the most random but coolest teams ever

On the other hand, last year’s finalist Hozumi/Ninomiya lost in the first round of Roland Garros couple days as well. They will both be heading out of the top 50 losing the 1,300 runner up points.

This is not good for the Japanese duo if they are thinking of playing in Tokyo Olympics. As of now it seems like the likely candidate will be Aoyama plus someone, maybe Kato? The Japanese being the host country will have at least a team in each discipline so there’s no worries on no home representation.

Mladenovic guarenteed new #1 if she makes semis in RG

Hi, i'm very new here. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think there are still two other contenders for the #1 spot : Elise Mertens and even Ashley Barty. If Mertens/Sabalenka beat Babos/Mladenovic in the SF, it will be Mertens who will be on top. Am I right ?

Yes, even Zhang Shuai has a shot. I was just listing the ones well in strike zone, didn't consider the rest.

to be #1 I think Elise needs :
- either to win the trophee,
- or be in the final and Kiki doesn't reach SF
but @coolfish1103 will explain us (I'm not sure to be right)
