2019 Shenzhen WTA Finals changes its doubles format

The 8-Team Doubles format has been changed back to a Round Robin format (same as the singles) with 2 groups of 4 teams, 3 round robin matches plus the semifinals and final instead of an elimination draw.

No-Ad scoring will be used in the first 2 sets (vs. Ad scoring); the 3rd set will remain a 10-point tie-break. There will be (1) Doubles Alternate team  

Re: 2019 Shenzhen WTA Finals changes its doubles format

This is gonna make it really tough on girls who make the Finals in both. If Barty or Sabalenka won both events (unlikely I know) they would need to play 10 matches in theoretically 7 days against the world's best in both fields. Huge ask.
Mateo Mathieu likes this.

Li Na, Estonian Mynx Nettu-GOAT Kontaveit, Aljona Ostapenko and The Barty Party

Kanepi Bertens Kostyuk Rybakina Empress Hagatha

No-ad scoring barely even qualifies as tennis.

Re: 2019 Shenzhen WTA Finals changes its doubles format

I actually thought having ad scoring in the first two sets was special for the YEC as it's the only tournament using this format of scoring but then with a tie-break set.

Round robin is definitely better than single-elimination. Would they get more days to complete the matches?

So what happens when a friend or partner holds a different opinion against your favorite?
