USA Takes Fed Cup
Inside the stadium, thousands chanted with hope. Glory and pride were at stake. Little did majority of the fans knew that it'd all change after just 1 hour of play.
Away from home, the USA captured the Fed Cup title, with a comprehensive win from the highest ranked player, Ashley Harkleroad, against the highest ranked player from the Russian squad, beauty Maria Sharapova in the last and deciding rubber.
Over the course of the competition, there was no clear lead achieved from both sides as both teams fought toe-to-toe. The nailbiting contest continued all the way to the 4th rubber, between Bethanie Mattek and Elena Dementieva. The American gave it her all in the first 2 sets, but simply fell short in the decider.
'Sure, I'd have hope to clinch the win for our team. I played my best for the country, and obviously I'm happy that we won the title. I'd like to thank Ashley for picking me in the team.' Mattek commented after the Harkleroad converted her matchpoint.
The Americans enjoyed a well-deserved victory, and here's hoping for more entralling rivalries between these 2 tennis power-nations.
