I really don't think she should play. If she makes her injury worse here, she could miss the Australian Open or even a couple of months of this season Why does she insist on playing this tournament? She can use the early rounds of the Australian Open as a warm-up, can't she?
I wonder what Eveline Coppens says about this injury. No way a good "kiné" would allow this

Yep I agree to, she shouldn't play here

And I don't think she will. i think she will withdraw on Tuesday, she said she will decide the day before she is supposed to play and she is supposed to start on Wednesday.

I hope that Kim will be able to play the Aussie Open, but in fact I would prefer if she wouldn't play it and be fit for the rest of the season instead of playing, making her injury get worse and be out for a big part of the season !

GET WELL SOON KIMMIE !!!

I wouldn't mind her playing there. She would never take the risk to miss the Aussie open so if she's playing sydney, that's only a good sign. It would mean the injury isn't that bad after all. So I really hope to see her playing there.

There was just a report on Radio 1 saying things were looking good: she's in Sydney and she had already trained today on a running machine, without any problem. Tomorrow she'll have a first tennistraining. If all goes well, she'll play Sydney this week.

that's really great news becoz the best preparing for such a tournament like AUS Open is to play some matches before
anyway she knows better than we what to do

now I'm getting a bit more positive about Kim after hearing this. After all this if Kim really thinks she should pull out, I wouldn't really mind. All I wanted Kim to be is 100% healed for Australian Open and fit through out the whole 2004.

This is an article from the Courier Mail (an Aussie newspaper I presume!):

Clijsters likely no-show
By Margie McDonald
12jan04

SECOND seed Kim Clijsters is no certainty to play at the Adidas International as she strives to recover from the ankle injury sustained last week.

Although fiance Lleyton Hewitt said yesterday he was confident her ankle would be right to play at the Australian Open, starting in Melbourne next Monday, he was not sure if Clijsters would play in Sydney.

Clijsters, the No.2 seed for the women's singles behind compatriot and world No.1 Justine Henin-Hardenne, is not due to arrive in Sydney until this morning.

Being one of the top four seeds, along with France's Amelie Mauresmo and American Lindsay Davenport, gives Clijsters the luxury of a bye in the first round.

Her second-round match will not be played until Wednesday, giving her extra time to work on her left ankle, which she damaged playing Australia's Alicia Molik last Wednesday at the Hopman Cup in Perth.

Hewitt said Clijsters was making progress.

"It's getting better every day, so Melbourne is a very good chance for her," Hewitt said.

And Sydney? "Here? I don't know." Clijsters, who is the defending singles and doubles champion, is not playing doubles this year. If she is not able to bring her ankle up to 100 per cent, she would be the third withdrawal from the women's singles, following Jelena Dokic and Molik.

On Aussie Tv coverage of Sydney, they just showed part of a press conference of Kim, and she said she will practice today and if everything pulls up fine she will play She also said Sydney is now a very special place for her
So I guess this is the latest news, and it comes straight from Kim, so it is true. They interrupted their coverage of the Rusedski match and went back to the host and they were like good news for Kim Clijsters and said how she would practice and see how she would feel and pull up from it. Kim said in her little press conference (they didn't chow much of it) that she wanted to play here to get a match before AO cause if she didn't it wouldn't be a good way to go into AO.
After her pressconference they went back to the match and the commentators on the match said something I forget and then they go she has a heart of gold also mentioned the engagement but nothing new.

She has been in Sydney since like Saturday afternoon or so, silly journalists really need to do their research better

The qualifiers have been placed, so if Kim plays she will play either Smashnova or Casanova, Casanova is without doubt the hardest of the qualifiers. I saw her play quallies on Gold Coast she really smacks the ball, and I think she will beat Smashnova. And will be a very tought opponent, cause it seems she is getting back to the form that took her to top 40-30.
