Wertheim again talks about Kim's niceness

A trivial note concerning Kim Clijsters' "niceness": I noticed at the French that when her service game ends on a first-serve point and the players change ends, Clijsters doesn't hit the second ball away to a ballkid -- she walks over and hands it to him or her. I have never seen this before.
—Jim Bartle, Huaraz, Peru

Thanks. We could fill an entire Mailbag with examples of Clijsters' grace and charm. Just too bad those qualities can be antithetical to success in an individual sport.

Thanks Jenglis.

Me, for one, I wouldn't want to see her change - I love her like she is. I refuse to believe that "niceness" is necessarily incompatible with "achievement"...

But if it is, and if she doesn't win a few tournaments because of it, I won't care. In the end, what she'll have won will far outstrip a few lost tennismatches...

If she'd ever became ruthless and unkind, however, I'd go looking for another player to support .

One of the main reasons I support Kim is because of her niceness. In many ways people who don't know much bout Kim & Lleyton ask why I like them both cos they are soo different but I think Lleyton is 'nice' as well just in a different way.
He's just very passionate on court.
What also pisses me off is that JK Rowlings is sueing some paper for 149 millions for publishing a bit of her book b4 it was released & no1 said anything yet when Lleyton sues for 2 million evry-1 calls him a spoilt brat
A bit unfair don't u think

We will miss you Kim!.

Best of Luck in 2007 to: Kim & Bryan, Lleyton, Alicia, Todd, Sam, Chris, Casey, Wayne, Kirsten & all the other Aussies & injured players.

Lynx - It's true, and I constantly have to remind myself of that; even if Kim doesn't win a major, what's most important is how she is as a human (it's the same for all of us). Kim is the most-liked person on tour, and she gets along with everyone. In that sense she is touching more people and putting more positivity in the world than any other player...and isn't that ultimately what matters most?

AussieKim - Lleyton is just now in the position where people have a certain view of him and will jump on anything that confirms it to them. He could go a whole tennis year without swearing once, pumping a fist, etc., but if at the year-end event he got in an argument with an umpire, people would talk about how he's rude and all of that.

before fench open that guy had never noticed Kim did that?
oehw, he must've really kept an eye on her then , she's been handing balls to the ballkid since like erm.. ever....

I always loved that, because indeed: there's no one else who does that...

as my grandfather -may he rest in peace- used to say: "if you don't try, you won't ever find out..." *looks very serious* (yeah right, my grandfather didn't say that at all but you must admit it didn't sound too bad, eh? )

so good luck ans, on your way to becoming the first 23-year-old ballgirl!!! I'm all the way behind you!!!
