Exclamation Kim's Provisional 2011 Schedule (consisting of 17 tournaments)

Kim is a Top 10 player at the end of 2010, so she must commit to a number of tournaments outside of the mandatory ones in 2011.

She must play 4 Premier 5 tournaments and 2 Premier 700 tournaments. Add to this the mandatory tournaments (4 Grand Slams, 4 Premier Mandatory, YEC) and 2 preparation tournaments (one before AO and one before Wimbledon) and you get a total of 17 tournaments.

The Premier 5 tournaments are Dubai, Rome, Toronto, Cincinnati and Tokyo.

The Premier 700 tournaments are Paris, Doha, Charleston, Stuttgart, Stanford and San Diego.

This is how her schedule for 2011 looked like (not including Fed Cup and exho's):

1) Sydney (P600) RUP
2) Australian Open (GS) WON
3) Paris (P700) RUP
4) Indian Wells (PM) 4TH
5) Miami (PM) QF
6) Madrid (PM)
7) Rome (P5)
8) Roland Garros (GS) 2ND
9) Rosmalen (Int) 2ND
10) Wimbledon (GS)
11) San Diego (P700)
12) Toronto (P5) 2ND
13) Cincinnati (P5)
14) US Open (GS)
15) Tokyo (P5)
16) Beijing (PM)
17) Istanbul (YEC)

Because of the many injuries, Kim only played 8 of the 17 tournaments she was supposed to play.

If she changes her surname to Williams she can play what she wants when she wants....

It will be interesting that's for sure. We know Kim's priorities are with her family so let's see how this turns out. Most likely will just pull out and pay the fine if she really doesn't want to play some of the tournaments.

Should be interesting whether Kim will pull out of some of her commitment tournaments if she is a Top 10 player in 2011. I usually view Kim as a player who sticks with her tournament commitments & not pull out just to keep the tournaments happy. But then again she is a mother now so maybe she will pull out & just accept the fine.

Serena also committed to several tournaments this year, but because of her injury (whether it's real or not), she was forced to pull out. So it isn't exactly true that she can play wherever and whenever she wants...

I think she will at least commit to the tournaments, and maybe pull out right before one of the tournaments starts. Because if she doesn't commit at the beginning of the year, the disadvantages are greater than just paying a fine. For example, she can't ask a wildcard for any tournament during the whole year. So I think she will at the very least fill in that commitment form just to keep the WTA happy. Only if a Top 10 player is 30 years of age at the start of the season, she can choose to drop the commitment tournaments.

Assuming Kim plays in 2011! Remember, this is a year-by-year thing. Kim may just want to have another kid for all we know.

She said in Belgian media that she will continue until the 2012 Olympics in London, because she wants to experience the Olympics at least once and that would be her only chance. So if she doesn't change plans, she will definitely play in 2011.

If her Beijing withdrawal is anything to go by, I think we now know how Kim will deal with those few extra commitment tournaments. Not that it was ever in doubt really...

"I didn't play my best tennis, not even close, but I still felt like I could win out there and as long as I have that feeling, as long as it doesn't get worse I'll fight until I'm done"

Your opponent is not the person on the other side of the net, or the team on the other end of the field, or even the bar you must high-jump. Your opponent is yourself - your negative internal waves, your level of determination.

If she doesn't play Rome, she has to play Dubai. Also, in the new calendar Rome is supposed to take place after Madrid. It's maybe a good idea to play Rome otherwise she has two weeks rest between her last prep tournament and RG.

Edit: and if 3 clay prep tournies are too many, she can always drop Stuttgart for Paris.
