Kim's Second Career ;;

So I thought we might need a thread to discuss matches, stats, draws and interviews, cheer Kim on, talk about our expectations etc.

What are your expectations and feelings 9 days before Cincinatti starts? I've been reading some threads in GM ("What will Kim do?"), and I personally feel like way too many people expect her to beat the top players immediately, their reason being that 'WTA is in such poor state at the moment'. While I do believe (and hope!) Kim is going to do really well later, I really do not expect her to be back to her old level immediately. After all, she has been out for over two years. I would definitely not mind her surprising me, though.

Re: Kim's Second Career ;;

Right now I'm really excited about the comeback, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. I can't believe the way some people could judge Kim on one exhibition set with Steffi or even in WTT as to how she will do on her comeback, when she hasn't played a full tour match in over two years.

Realistically I have to expect her to take a bit of time to adjust to the tour again plus Kim is travelling with Jada this time so it will be interesting to see how this affects her. Depends on the draws too, she could Serena in second round or something. I hope it's kind to her and she can maybe get a win or two and build some confidence. I'll be interested to see how she is moving as that was such an impressive part of her game, might take her time to get up to speed?

All that said it wouldn't totally surprise me if she did do well right away.

I hope so. Bring it on Kim!

Re: Kim's Second Career ;;

I'm also really excited about her comeback. It's getting closer! Can't wait!
No idea what to expect. It's difficult to give an opinion based on the matches she already played. I also think it's not realistic to expect her to win a lot of matches again. Just as jpol said, it takes a bit of time to get just to the tour again. But ofcourse I hope she will do well
We all support for you Kim!!

Good luck for the 2017 season:

Ana Ivanovic
Angelique Kerber
Kiki Bertens

Kirsten Flipkens, Caroline Wozniacki, Serena Williams, Petra Kvitova, Jelena Jankovic, Belinda Bencic, Sorana Cirstea

Does anyone know when the Cincy draw is out? Saturday or Sunday?
It would be a huge blow if she had a big name in the first round. I'm really excited, though!

Re: Kim's Second Career ;;

I'm not sure. I'm so excited for KIm's comeback. But I think anticipatory is the better word. I am so nervous! I want her to do so well, and it would be devastating for her to comeback and just fail miserably. So I'm looking forward to it and I see it all as a bonus considering I never thought she would return, but I'm also trying not to let myself get carried away. No matter what, it will be a pleasure to have her back, and I'll enjoy every second of it. Even if she only wins one match, I'll take it as it is.

Now I'll just cross my fingers and hope for a phenominal success!!

Re: Kim's Second Career ;;

Well like the majority here I would love to see her do well of course. I believe she has the ability to win over most of the current top players & new emerging stars, however it is just a matter of her adjusting to the situation of playing an official WTA match again and carrying the role of a mother at the same time. Exhibition & WTT matches are all good in getting valuable match time, but WTA matches are different as you are playing serious tennis against the world's best, it gets you match fit & there is something worth playing for.

I have no expectations on her to do really well straight away in her comeback, as long as she is fit and healthy to play pro tennis again I'm happy Should be interesting to see what draws she will get in Cincinnati, Toronto & the US Open, & how she would go against the youngsters such as Azarenka & Wozniacki.

I'm so excited for Kim's comeback! Been counting down the days.
There won't be streams available for the early rounds tho so I don't think I can watch her play until US open . Unless she makes it to Quarters ofcourse.

Here's what it says on Kim's website:

"We cannot let Kim's comeback pass quietly. She will play her first game in the night of Monday to Tuesday at 2 a.m. (Belgian time). You can follow the game here LIVE!

Watch Kim's first game LIVE on Monday night!
"

I doubt they'll actually show the match (how would they have bought the rights for it???), but it's weird that they'd make such a big deal out of it if it's just livescores.

The draw comes out today!

I just noticed the 'watch' Kim's first game LIVE. But they didn't say watch her live here. Just follow..
I really doubt it's a stream to watch.

Can't wait to see the draw!

Re: Kim's Second Career ;;

Not an easy first match up to start off with, but it could of been worse. Bartoli is in hot form as of late after winning Stanford, so no doubt she has the advantage in match play & confidence at the moment. However Kim has nothing to lose against Bartoli and has the game to beat her, as I mentioned before it is just a matter of how Kim is match fit.

Cmon Kim!
