I Miss Kim Clijsters!

It's weird, I was never a huge fan of hers back when she was around and kicking, but I miss her big-time right now. I've noticed more and more that I've been defending her a lot in GM (I can link the threads/posts if you want) but it's surprising me how much I like her, in retrospect.

I particularly miss how she could just wreck players outside the top 10 and still be such a charming person at net, in pressers, lockerroom, etc.

Some retrospective appreciations/defenses I've written up in GM:

Miss her so much too
Nice contributions by the way. Wouldn't recommend discussing about Kim on GM, as there are a lot of haters/losers around

Join the club.

I still love tennis, but it's just not as fun without Kim. The only thing that makes things easier is that I can root for a good player without worrying if he/she is in Kim's side of the draw.

Re: I Miss Kim Clijsters!

I've seen many of your posts on Kim, including the most recent one on indoor greatness. They were really insightful, and even as a fan, some of her stats that you point out still make me "wow"

And it's funny, at the end of her career (and much of 2006, actually) I got a little tired of hearing about her. But it's very much worth noting, and I think I can appreciate this a great deal more now, that she didn't really bring any of the constant press on herself. She just did well, got interviewed and pressed on her career choices frequently, and she's too nice to say "no more press". It's hard to fault someone for being open with the media.

And just so you know, I don't try to bring up the subject. But I do try to educate some GMers when they bring Kim into the discussion without understanding the pretty remarkable context of her career.

I miss the splits! Jankovic and Kuznetsova are poor imitations.

Re: I Miss Kim Clijsters!

Great that she's back, and in such style too! It really takes something to come out of a 27 month retirement and play so well. She's also the first mum to win a Grand Slam since 1980, when Evonne Goolagong Cawley beat Chris Evert in the Wimbledon final. It seems like the perfect victory for her; going in as a wildcard, beating the Williams sisters on the way, and even having her daughter there at the end. It's good to have her back as a serious contender in women's tennis. Do people think she can keep it up?

Re: I Miss Kim Clijsters!

I Miss Kim lol. Can't wait for Luxembourg. So boring without her. Esp with lack of news and less twitter. I think we got used to seeing her heaps with her first three tournaments.
