Why You're a Fan

I think we did this in the "English Chat Lounge" in the Kim forum. To keep this thread alive and to help Donna's desperate attempts , you can post here on when/where/why you became a Kim fan.

Re: Why You're a Fan

I became a Kim fan when I was really young (summer of 20001 or 2002). I was at my grandparents in California, and my grandparents (tennis fanatics) were watching Kim play. I heard my grandfather say, "She has nice shoulders," as I was walking into the room. I asked who, and he said Kim Clijsters, as he pointed to the screen. I saw this amazing point, and I gained sooo much respect. She really played a great point. Even though I wasn't into tennis, I became a major fan and became a bigger fan as I watched her play more and learned more about her...

Re: Why You're a Fan

Interesting. I became quite attracted to Kim when I first saw her play at the AO 2003 & I remember watching that epic SF match where she held MP's & I was cheering my lungs out for her. When she lost I felt like crying, but I then realised what a talented player she was.

I really became a fan of hers when I saw her play the USO final that year & she lost it. I felt quite sorry that a player as good as her hadn't won a slam title yet. Someone as friendly & down to earth like her should of won the title that day.

And as I kept on following her results more often & watched quite frequently I have just become addicted to Kim ever since.

Re: Why You're a Fan

Good idea Robert

I sort of became a Kim fan when I saw her on TV playing Dominque Van Roost at the Aus Open 2000. I thought that she looked like a good player but I was only just starting to get into tennis then so I didn't really follow her. Then when I saw that she had made the semis against Justine at the French, I started getting interested. By the time the final rolled around, I was a big fan
It was good coz thats when we started getting a lot of coverage of Kim in Australia since she was "Lleyton Hewitt's girlfriend" Those were the days....

Its weird but I think I have only just really realised that she has retired . I mean, when she did we were still getting heaps of news/pics etc with the wedding and the baby etc but now there's nothing and its like I'm expecting her to suddenly start playing a tournament but I know she's not But oh well, she will pop up from time to time

Re: Why You're a Fan

I became a fan when I was 10 years old, she was in my school, one class higher, and didn't come to school at some days cause she had to play tennis. I already knew her, cause she lived in my grandmothers street, and I new that she was at playing tennis, but not having to come to school to play tennis, that is something special
so at one point we went to see her with school, and I became a fan!
have been one ever since!

Re: Why You're a Fan

Roland Garros 2001 started it all. Really became fan when I came across a match during the Aussie Open 2003, she was playing Amanda Coetzer I think, not sure anymore, LOVED that match though it wasn't anything spectacular But she just pulled me with her gameplay.

then a few matches broke my heart but I hung in there

Le temps de la colère, les femmes
Notre temps, est arrivé
Connaissons notre force, les femmes
Découvrons-nous des milliers !

L'hymne des femmes
