This thread is for Kim only!!! We can express here our feelings about her, we can talk about Kim's first match (that we saw), the favourite victory, the most paintfull lost, favourite outfit, favourite quote, ...We can as well speak about things that not everybody knows about her, such as: her favourite food, drink, song, car....

Re: Thank you for everything Kim! We will never forget you!!!

The first time that I saw Kim was during RG final in 2001 when she played against Capriati. That match was I'm speechless each time I thing about it. Kim was unbeliavable and from that day on, I was a devoted fan. Before that, I didn't watch tennis that much because I wasn't interested in it. After I saw Kim, I couldn't take my eyes away from tennis, better said, away from Kim.
That was the time I saw Kim for the first time....

Wow Doris, that could be my story Also started with the 2001 final. I also had the chance to see a couple of Kim's matches in real life, which was always memorable.. Hope to go the farewell party in september!

Re: Thank you for everything Kim! We will never forget you!!!

pretty much same memory, and then the next strong memory was when I saw her live for the first time... Antwerp, against Venus (alright she lost but I shouted my lungs out, CCLers who were with me can confirm ).

I started following her really tightly when I got cable at home and watched tennis all year around, sleepless nights (AO 2003 SF is one of them), nerve racking matches... And then I discovered this forum, managed to get the love match DVD (Fiona ) and got hooked to this place and all the nice people here

Re: Thank you for everything Kim! We will never forget you!!!

I never saw Kim is real life only on TV....This is my biggest disappointment!
2 years ago ( I think...) I went with a couple of friends and my ex Geography teacher in Paris for some days. It was in August but I went to Roland Garros, just to visit the courts, the tournament. I felt so great when I put my foot on Suzanne Lenglen....ahhh...what a feeling . I bought some things of course( I spent there all my money ) and I made a lot of pictures , though I have wanted to be there during the tournament

Re: Thank you for everything Kim! We will never forget you!!!

Wow, I am also the same as Doris and lienie! The first time I ever saw Kim play was the Roland Garros final against Capriati! Kim played unbelievable and I was hooked!!!! I loved watching her ground strokes, splits and how unbelievably quick she was
Everytime I saw her play, I became even more of a fan. When I heard of how the other players spoke about how nice Kim is, seeing how she cares so much about her fans and just people in general (she would always go visit kids in hospitals etc) I was in awe of her
She is the most amazingly compassionate person who is so grounded and down-to-earth! It is actually impossible not to like her.
I will always remember watching her US Open final and how I got all teary-eyed when she finally won her Grand Slam Title that she deserved more than ever
Kim is truely a hero and someone that everyone can look up to. How she overcame her potentially career-ending wrist injury and then winning all those hard court titles, aswell as her slam, is just amazing

I am going to miss Kim SOOOOO much and find it very strange and sad to think that I will never see her name on the tv screen again
But I wish above all things, that Kim is very happy and that her future is filled with everything that is good and that all her dreams come true.

Thank you Kim, for all the memories - I applaud you

Re: Thank you for everything Kim! We will never forget you!!!

You know what - you guys aren't going to like me for this. But I only really became a Kim fan at Wimby 2003 in her semi-final against Venus. Those matches you mention - that RG 2001 final and also the AO 2002 semi-final - I was rooting for JCap. I thought at the time - phew Jennifer won that time but Kim is still young.

I didn't realise then that I'd become a fan of Kim. I didn't know about her at all in 2001. Now if that match could be played again - I'd be sooo rooting for Kim.

That USO 2005 has got to be the highlight for me. But even so - if she hadn't won a slam at all, it really wouldn't alter my opinion about her or how good she was. There's a lot of people on these boards - well on GM - who genuinely simply think that the only thing that matters or is remembered is winning a slam. Everything else is worthless and you can strip it all away. And if Kim hadn't won any slam at all - even worse - she's worth nothing. It's a trap to imagine how bad it would be if Kim hadn't won USO I won't fall into.

For me - there is no way that the only things remembered are just the winning the slam. And whether she'd won no slams at all or multiple slams the image I have is of someone who's always up there - semis, finals, winner - and who puts everything into getting everything back. That long point at match point down against Maria last year typifies what my memories of Kim are.

Re: Thank you for everything Kim! We will never forget you!!!

The strange thing is that I don't remember when I saw Kim the next time... I remember that RG final but nothing after that...only the 2003 season. It's like 2002 doesn't exist for me

The first part of 2002 was plagued with injuries, but towards the end of it, it was great. Haven't you seen her match against Serena at YEC? (One of those wonderful matches when she didn't choke )
