Kim won with 6-1 6-2 !

Good win Kim !

Kim now has to play against Jankovic..... here's the schedule of Thursday Aug. 3, 2006

Stadium Court - 10:00 a.m.
Sania MIRZA (IND) vs Elena DEMENTIEVA (RUS)
Not Before 11:30 am
Kim CLIJSTERS (BEL) vs Jelena JANOVIC (SCG)
Vera ZVONAREVA (RUS) vs Maria SHARAPOVA (RUS)
Mary PIERCE (FRA) vs Emma LAINE (FIN)

So, that will be at least a better time for me to follow the match than against Stostur ----> 4:00 AM

Good luck Kim !

from an AP article today:

Pierce struggles to advance in return; Clijsters cruises

CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP)

Top-seeded Kim Clijsters had no trouble in advancing to the third round with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Samantha Stosur of Australia in the featured night match. Clijsters broke Stosur's serve all four times in the first set.

Clijsters has won 41 of her last 42 matches on North American hardcourts, including Sunday's victory at the Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, Calif.

"You have to keep focused," Clijsters said. "From the minute that I won at Stanford, my head is already here."

Clijsters schools Stosur in formidable San Diego display

SAN DIEGO, United States (AFP) - Top seed Kim Clijsters won her 12th match in 13 starts, producing a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of Samantha Stosur to bolt into the third-round of the 1.34-millon-dollar WTA event.

The Belgian was ruthless in her 53-minute demolition of the 39th-ranked Australian, joining holder Mary Pierce in getting off to a winning start after a bye at this costal golf resort.

Clijsters won both of her Fed Cup matches against the US last month and lifted the first title of the summer hardocurt season last weekend in northern California at Stanford.

Clijsters couldn't have been more pleased with her one-way rout.

"It's nice to keep playing my best tennis. I knew I had to be on my toes today, she can play well and I know her game can be tough.

"I'm very pleased to have gotten out in two sets."

Clijsters has been on a tear since Wimbledon, her only loss coming to rival Justine Henin-Hardenne in the grass-court semi-finals.

She next plays Jelena Jankovic, who beat Alana Bondarenko of Ukraine 6-1, 7-6 (7/4).

"formidable display". I like that expression.
Sounds good. I just don't like the fact that Kim is struggling with a sore back. Fortunately, her schedule is very wise.

2000-2007: My "Kim years". My best years as a tennis fan. A few bitter losses but a lot of great matches and great wins. Thank you, Kim Clijsters!

How much of an issue is the sore back? Kim says she is healthy and is playing well...

Sam no match for Kim

KIM Clijsters highlighted the difference between Australia's best and the world's best yesterday, thrashing Sam Stosur in straight sets at the Accura Classic in San Diego.

Stosur, the top ranked Australian who reached a career high No. 39 in the latest WTA rankings, was beaten 6-1, 6-2 in a second-round match lasting just 53 minutes.

It was top seed Clijsters' 12th win in 13 starts.

The Belgian world No. 2 next plays Jelena Jankovic, who beat Alana Bondarenko, of Ukraine, 6-1, 7-6, (7-4). Another Serb, 14th-seeded Ana Ivanovic, dispatched 33-year-old American Amy Frazier 6-3, 6-2.

I understood that the back is an ongoing and therefore chronic problem, one that has to be managed, so that Kim can continue to play. It's not an acute injury, its a chronic condition, so Kim doesn't refer to it as a specific injury. Apparently, it is part of the reason why she plays and practises less and it affects her serve. You might have noticed that Kim is a tad less mobile around the court than she was in (say) 2003.

I might be wrong though.
