"Coach De Hous quits Clijsters role" (CNN Article)

Well this paper certainly doesn't hate Kim, so I guess it must be true.

Coach De Hous quits Clijsters role
Friday, September 16, 2005 Posted: 1427 GMT (2227 HKT)

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- Kim Clijsters and her coach have split just a week after she won her first Grand Slam title, the U.S. Open champion has said.

Marc De Hous, who had been her coach since 2002, said he preferred going out on top. "We have come full circle," he said.

The split leaves the Belgian world No. 3 without a coach for the rest of the year.

"I will assess things at my ease after the Masters," said Clijsters of the November WTA Tour Championship. "I would have loved to have played another year under his guidance."

Under De Hous, Clijsters reached the WTA No. 1 ranking in 2003 but struggled to win a Grand Slam title, losing three finals before prevailing in New York last weekend.

It was also under De Hous that Clijsters made a her impressive comeback this season after sitting out most of 2004 to a wrist injury and subsequent surgery.

She has won seven tournaments so far this year and is scheduled to play at Luxembourg, Filderstadt, Germany, and Hasselt, Belgium, ahead of the concluding WTA Championship.

Clijsters will have to find a new coach just a week after winning the U.S. Open

Usually, I've only heard the players dump the coach, not the opposite. Kinda weird.

Yea, it makes it harder for Kim fans, as it wasnt her decision, so she wont be happy! Her and Marc achieved a lot together, but im sure its the players ability rather than their coach that make the most difference so as long as she finds a coach for next yr, it'll be fine, regardless of whether they are Marcs standard or not!

I think it's more of a joined decision though Gemma, Kim won't be sad about it ... I mean she won't be jumping for joy ( anymore ) but I'm quite sure she's not down about it either. Guess it was just time to move on, the news didn't take me by surprise anyway
And I'm not sure she'll be looking for a new coach either, looks like a sparring partner will do for now ... and if she does take on a new coach ... may I suggest Carl Maes yet again because I quite like the guy

Yea but Kim said she would have liked to have worked with him for another year, so it seems more his decision than hers. But im sure she won't suffer because of it

Thats kinda sad. Still I suppose he's married now & wants to settle down or something?

I really liked Marc but I'm sure someone else would love to coach Kim. Maybe Elke will travel with her for a while or her Dad cos it would be awful travelling without a coach & all by yourself, plus she'll have no one to carry her bags!

We will miss you Kim!.

Best of Luck in 2007 to: Kim & Bryan, Lleyton, Alicia, Todd, Sam, Chris, Casey, Wayne, Kirsten & all the other Aussies & injured players.

Translation work for a youngster

Marc De Hous: "Ik heb leergeld betaald"

"Hij mag me altijd eens opbellen."

Marc DeHous: "I learned a lesson"
zo 18/09/05 - Marc De Hous, the ex-coach of Kim Clijsters, explained his decision to quit working with Clijsters in De Zevende Dag (program on Belgian TV )

On the question if there were differences of opinions with Kim or Lei Clijsters he answered: "Even if that was the case, that'll stay between us."

Was it a financial decision then? DeHous received an extra bonus of 7.500 euros after Clijsters won the US Open. "That amount of money stood in the contract. I learned a lesson.", DeHous said.

And his future? Will he become the new coach of Xavier Malisse? "He can always call me."

OK, so I hope "Ik heb lesgeld betaald" means "I learned a lesson"
