My tip for the final is Clijsters vs. Pierce. What I saw last week from Mary Pierce in San Diego was just stunning. Unbelievable tennis, aggressive, well placed and fast balls and Mary full of self confidence. Could also be Sharapova in the finals, but nearly for sure semifinals Sharapva vs. Pierce and Clijsters vs. Kuznetsova. What do you think?

Nice post and here's hoping, but I sense that our confidence in Kim is slightly dented these past few days and we've got a little negative! I certainly hope Kim has a good week, there's no reason why she shouldn't if she's put the loss to Peng behind her. She's still brilliant on hard court and still has an exemplary record that should stand her in very good stead and make her one of the favourites for this tournament.

Agreed with you Fi . But it's not necessarily a bad thing our confidence was dented, we've been taken Kim's victories a bit too much for granted lately I'm afraid.

And I prefer a cold shower like Peng's in a preparation tournament, rather than in the USO itself.

But please Kim - win this thing and get my vCash back up

i dont think the loss to peng shuai was anything to fret about. but rather, just a wake up call to kim to be careful of even the low ranked players. on hindsight, this might be a good thing

Yes, we need Kim to play Peng again this week, but this time with Peng as the hot favourite and we all bet big time on Kim. That would have the double benefit of (a) making us (materially) rich again and (b) restoring our dented confidence in Kim, he he!

You can say that again.

Kim has never really disappointed me (I have been disappointed by some of her results of course, but my disappointment never extended to her, if that makes sense to you )... but she has now . Not so much by losing to Peng - upsets can happen, they're part of tennis - but by the fact that she praised Peng to all kind of olympic heights - the best player she had played this year! possible top 3 ! - and then this superPeng was quite effortlessly (sp?) grinded to dust by Mary Pierce...

I appreciate the fact that Kim will almost always give credit to her opponents, it's good she gave Peng credit too - but so much (unsubstantiated) praise has shocked my confidence in her.

OR she really thought she herself played well against Peng and didn't - which shows a serious error of judgement - OR she gave Peng knowingly more praise than was her due... for reasons I don't want to know.

Yes, my confidence in Kim is showing a dent al right - and a very big dent it is .

I began replying to Fi's post before yours was there - I can't believe I needed 20 minutes to write it

Well, I've put a bit on Kim winning LA, but more out of loyalty than out of belief.
Like I said: my confidence is shocked.

I kind of agree (must be our age showing! ) and part of me is starting to wonder if Kim is as motivated and hungry about tennis as she wants us to believe?

I hope to high heaven I'm wrong of course!

Oh gawd Lynx, we're going to give everyone the rapid depressions with this kind of talk. Maybe we should start a "grumpy old men/women" thread
