Post Schedule Season 2004

Kim has so far comitted to
Hopman Cup
Sydney
AO
Perhaps Open Gaz de France
I'm assuming Antwerp

There is a thread in GM about Kim playing Paris, I found it surprising when I saw her name on the popup from the website. She doesn't normally play the event, also it is the same time as the first round of davis cup in adelaide and htought she would have been there but then maybe she wants a warm up event for Antwerp and also Scottsdale is gone now so maybe is replacing that with Paris. A lot of talk in GM about her heavy schedule, but at the end of the day if she does play here she isn't increasing her schedule like they say, as Scottsdale has gone and she isn't playing doubles.

Good Luck to Kim in 2004

Kim has released her 2004 schedule on her website and there are some interesting changes with no Luxembourg

Hopman Cup
Sydney
AO

Open Gaz De France
Antwerp

Indian Wells
Miami
Exhibition in Bree
Special Day for Handicapped population of Bree
Fed Cup

Berlin
Rome
FO

Rosmalen or Eastbourne (Hope she goes to Eastbourne )
Wimbledon

Fed Cup
Stanford
LA
San Diego
Montreal
Us Open

Leipzig

Filderstadt
Moscow
Zurich
LA

Fed Cup Final (if they make it)

So she has replaced Luxembourg with Moscow and it says in GM she has been forced to play Moscow by the WTA so I guess that is why she has eliminated Luxembourg. Not so sure how good that is, her last two indoor seasons have been fantastic.

And Open Gaz De France has replaced Scottsdale which is no longer around I guess, and should give her a good preparation for Antwerp

I still think, it's too much tournament...

But well, it's her decision right? COME ON KIM

I think it's a very good schedule! She's playing the slams and almost all the Tier I's

I agree, it shows Kim is maturing as a top player and a professional. I appreciate her nostalgic attachment to Luxembourg, but the time really had come to move on.

Patiently waiting to join the silver surfers

No Luxembourg this year coz it's Slam-time now!

2000-2007: My "Kim years". My best years as a tennis fan. A few bitter losses but a lot of great matches and great wins. Thank you, Kim Clijsters!
26.03.2009: More Kim years to come!

How can the WTA force you to play? I thought you make your own schedule.

I don't think they can actually force you..they probably asked her to play it. Persuaded perhaps

Yay Rogers Cup

The WTA guarantees at least 1 of the top 3 gold exempt players at each Tier I event, and they can force a player to go. It's a once-a-year sort of thing.

There was a thread about it in GM when Capriati showed up in Moscow this year. I think they tell the player to go or pay a fine.

15 WTA events, 4 Slams, Hopman Cup, Fed Cup, and the Masters (if she makes it). Without doubles, this seems like a plenty reasonable schedule to me She's also planning her season well IMO, with breaks from tour play for weeks at a time. I wish she'd drop another summer hardcourt event, but -- baby steps

According to TBE in this thread (post #31)

b. Hard Designations
Each Top 10 Gold Exempt player is subject to one (1) Hard Designation by the Tour. Refusal to accept a Hard Designation will warrant an automatic $25,000 fine.

Jen is #3 on the Gold Exempt list so the WTA now escapes paying out to the Moscow directors.

Also it's in the players best interest to go, cause (according to my understanding) if the WTA has to pay the tournament, that money comes out of the players bonus pot. So they are basically taking money away from themselves..and their fellow players too

Edit: btw anyone else think she might not be getting the warmest reception in Moscow First for Fed Cup she's like Moscow?! Pfff and then the WTA is forcing her to go to the Kremlin Cup
