An Open Letter to Justine fans.

Dear Henin fans,

As a primary supporter of Venus and Serena, I must apologize for the words of slander, hate, and complete disrespect for Justine Henin. I have been touting it for days and that was that Justine Henin was going to let Serena Williams know that she cannot step on the court after being away for eight weeks and expect to wipe the number one player off the court. That's exactly what happened. In fact, I wanted this loss to be happen. Not only will Justine and Venus truly battle it out for who truly deserves this US Open title, Serena Williams can sit back and realize that she needs to get more fit, lose weight, and consider match play as a strong factor in her preparation for slams.

I am sorry for the mindless Serena and Venus fans who are blind to the realities of things and cannot respect Justine's on court display today. Although a different Serena may have shown up and a different match would have ensued, this Serena is miles of work away. Justine was incredibly impressive tonight.

I respect Justine for her tennis; unfortunately, some do not.

Sincerely,
In The Zone

That's just not fair. How do you know what Serena's been doing? How do you know if she needs to lose weight? Shut up.

Supergrunt. Look at 2004 Serena. She was not huffing and puffing and barely getting to balls. This is more of a compliment to Serena than disrespect. I love her. She shouldn't be scrambling to balls like that and topspinning balls short and in the center of the short. That's just not our Serena.

Thanks. You said it, "lose weight". I've said this before on this board and was laughed at. Serena knows she needs to, but will she? She got away with it at the Australian Open but doesn't mean she will again.

Serena lost and was outplayed by Justine. But that's cuz she let Justine overpower her. So many short balls that weren't hit very hard gave Justine all the opportunity in the world to step in and hit winners. Serena could def. get fitter but she still has the game to be no.1. Will she? that's up in the air. I have no idea why she has changed her game to what it is right now. It's mind boggeling. My theory is that she hasn't been practicing well and has no confidence in her ground game.

You sound like Venus fans earlier this year. So many lost faith (me included) when she lost to Jankovic, Kuznestsova, sharapova, Golving, Rezai. Serena hasn't shown us her real game in awhile but the plus side is she played all 4 slams and was consistent. This is a step forward. Remember she also went through a mini-slump after winning her first slam. Well this is the first slam in part II of her career. She needs to regroup that's all.

Re: An Open Letter to Justine fans.

Justine didn't do anything that she doesn't do any other match.
She didn't play that much outside herself.

When Haas beat Blake at this slam, he came to net more than he's probably ever done.
That's impressive tennis. That's playing outside of a typical gamestyle.
That sort of tennis should be admired.

Justine hit the ball a little bit harder.
She served around 50 percent AS USUAL.
She looked at Carlos for support after every point AS USUAL.

She didn't do anything special in this match that makes me believe that when/if she plays Venus she's not going to pay for her bad habits.

The reality of the situation is that Serena just didn't play a smart match which allowed Justine to play her game.
She should not be praised for not displaying growth when she'll need that likely against Venus in the next round.

I respect her game but I'm not going to praise her when she didn't do anything special.

Re: An Open Letter to Justine fans.

You can write "love letters" to Justine's fanbase and that's fine, but please leave the collective group of "Williams Fans" out of the equation. Apologizing for a bunch of people expressing opinions over the internet is pointless. One must also realize that Williams fans aren't a monolithic group, some dislike Justine while others have no problem with her.

Not unusual. I think she has a similar 1st serve % in most matches, at least against tougher opponents when she takes chances on her serve.

Goodbye WTA and Jelena. It was nice being your fan once.
