2017 Asia/Oceania Zone Group I

Dates: 8-11 February 2017
Venue: National Tennis Centre
City: Astana, Kazakhstan
Surface: Hard - indoor

Format

Round-robin basis.

The pool winners compete against each other in a promotion play-off to determine which nation goes through to the World Group II play-offs in April.

The bottom-placed nations in the pools will play-off against each other to determine which nation will be relegated to Asia/Oceania Zone Group II in 2018.

One promoted.
One relegated.

Participating nations:

Thailand, China P.R.
Kazakhstan, Japan
India, Philippines
Republic of Korea

Thailand: Luksika Kumkhum, Peangtarn Plipuech, Nicha Lertpitaksinchai and Kamonwan Buayam

Pool B:

China, P.R.: Ying-Ying Duan, Lin Zhu, Kai-Lin Zhang and Zhaoxuan Yang
India: Ankita Raina, Karman Kaur Thandi, Snehadevi Reddy and Riya Bhatia
Japan: Misaki Doi, Naomi Osaka, Eri Hozumi and Shuko Aoyama
Philippines: Katharina Lehnert, Anna Clarice Patrimonio, Khim Iglupas and (playing captain) Czarina-Mae Arevalo

China has 5 Top 100 players and they're fielding 1 of them. That should make Japan's task a lot easier, although it's by no means a forgone conclusion. I'll be amazed if the Philippines aren't relegated.

The home team should get through their group but Yulia might be tired and Slava can lose to anybody on a bad day.

Depends a bit on which BFCD turns up, but Japan's doubles should be stronger anyway.

China's doubles is not bad at all Zelda has a final this year already. But yeah India/Phillipines for relegation.

im excited and happy for the philippine team. they'll face newer faces and we'll be exposed to tougher competition.
i hope they avoid relagation and stay in this group.
