This will continue to be UCLA's only way of winning matches this season. They'll need to win the doubles point and get 3 singles wins. Stella switched all of the doubles teams, and that seems to be working in UCLA's favor. UCLA's hurting in the middle of the singles lineup right now with 2, 3 and 4. If I was Stella, I would try: 1) Shibahara, 2) Hart, 3) Fleming, 4) Andrews, 5) Miller, 6) Wiley. After finally getting to see the team, I also think the players make too many unforced errors.

Against Stanford, I wasn't surprised that Stanford won, but I was surprised that UCLA got 3 points. I think Stanford's issue is that all of their players are similar from 1-6, so they may not have the players to win consistently at the top of the lineup but the bottom of their lineup are good enough to consistently win.

I agree with that proposed line-up. I think Fleming is better suited at #3 for sure. I'll be interested to see if any PAC 12 team can make a deep run at NCAAs. I'm not convinced by any of them so far.

Georgia beat Auburn soundly today, which was not a surprise, but I had no idea that Auburn was ranked #4 and after looking at its schedule and wins so far, I still don't get it.

The rankings are kind of all over the place this season. I think it's safe to say that Florida, UNC, and maybe Ohio State are the front runners for the NCAA title this season.

Re: 2016-17 College Tennis Results and Discussion

Well it finally happened; Florida lost at home for the first time in 13 years, a streak that spanned 163 matches in a row, with a 4-1 loss to Georgia.

The Streak(s) is Over - Florida Gators

The amazing thing was not necessarily that it happened, although it was certainly an upset, but how decisively Georgia pulled it off, with the doubles point and three straight sets singles wins. Perez and Christofi BLITZED Woolcock and Neel, respectively. Florida picked up one win at #4, and the remaining matches were in a third set.

I've thought that this Georgia team could be real contenders this year, with so many talented players, but could they be a real threat to the title? I'd like to see how they match up against UNC, but this result shows that, if they're playing well, they are certainly in the mix.

Yeah, the scores for singles 1 and 2 are shocking. Also, surprised with Keegan losing at #6. She was once playing at the top of the lineup last year. I guess it's not as clear of a path to the national championship as I thought it would be for Florida this season.

Re: 2016-17 College Tennis Results and Discussion

I am not surprised. This is tennis. No matter how good you are as a player, you're going to have bad days on the court, where nothing is going right.
Add to that a team that wants to knock you off AND not just a Top 20 team, but a #6 ranked team.

Then again, maybe they peaked too early, after beating Stanford, and emotionally they're flat, and need this loss to get back into it!!!

This could be 2010 all over again, where Florida is the favorite to win it all...

wow...interest here has really dropped off. Too bad.

However, great win for the Card yesterday defeating Cal at Cal. The two freshmen have been rock solid and the team will need them to continue that play as they head into the NCAA playoffs.

I attached a shot from last weekend's match. Go Card!

Pac-12's first year of the team championship format. Glad that they are going to this format.

Vanderbilt look certain to win SEC champs over Florida as top seeds: Vanderbilt Tennis -- Florida vs Vanderbilt

I guess it's indoors and there are only 5 courts available. Line 6 only started when a court became free. Very close match on 5 courts + doubles, line 6 heading for a double bagel.

Vanderbilt (also?) beat Florida a week ago and with Georgia suffering a shock defeat to Texas A&M at the same time, took the regular season title outright.

EDIT: the fightback starts here; no double bagel, at least.

Contreras went walkabout at 6-0 3-0, was down 3-5 second set to Liang, but won 4 games in a row to earn the championship for Vanderbilt.

urklerlay? (did you get locked out)

What's the story on Davidson? Is she recovering from an injury?

I like that she's at #3, actually, as her style of play does not give her much of a chance at #1.

Doyle has been stepping up at #1 giving Card a 50% shot.

Speaking of interest, I think their are a few factors in play:
1) Fantic's disappearance
2) New rules, shorten the game, exciting? or disappointing? Probably has divided the interest in the game. Personally, I hate attempts to shorten the game.
3) Junior talent turning pro has diluted the talent playing college (nothing new) but more international players seem to have leveled the playing field.

Seems like no team is unbeatable (like on any given Sunday)...

Teams are seeded. I believe right now it's:

1. Stanford
2. Cal
3. ASU
4. UCLA
5. Oregon
6. USC
7. Washington
8. Utah

The top seeds get byes. I think USC plays Washington then Oregon plays Utah.
