She's already stated that she couldn't hit overhead shots because of her collarbone inflammation a week before, so Masha being the perfectionist she is, would not want to enter a tournament just for the sake of it and fuck her chances at slams. Did you not see her press conference like yesterday at Brisbane? She said her main goal was the SLAMS, idk of course its our fave and ofc we'd be worried about her, but in all seriousness I think this was a wise decision. If anything, when she stated she was going to play Brisbane in the first place I was quite surprised!

She's going to be fine for the AO so lets keep that optimistic train rolling

Her withdrawal press conference was quite insightful, she's relatively at peace with her decision, it's not like she was sat there in tears or anything :lol:
after watching that I feel much better that she has made a great choice, AO > Brisbane imo

Well I woke up really excited to watch Maria play her first match, than I go to the Brisbane site to see when Maria's playing and I'm like what da fuck, I go to SS and hear the news about the withdrawal Reaction:

Then I watch the press conference and calm down because Maria seems calm about the whole thing and it seems like just a precaution.

Happy New Year Everyone! The fireworks show here in Brisbane was so neat. I only caught the 9pm show but let's not tell anyone and blame it on jet lag! Here is a picture I took from my new camera courtesy of Mama Santa. On another note, I won't be able to play in Brisbane this year unfortunately. My collar bone is feeling so much better but just didn't have enough days to fully prepare for the tournament. For the few days I have been here, what a nice tournament and atmosphere! Now on to the Australian Open...I'm so excited!

Ok now that I had some time to think about this and got mu over-dramatics out of the way :lol: I think that her decision is for the best and we shouldn't worry I'm confident that she will be ready for AO and hopefully will have good results there I guess I was just disappointed because I was excited to watch her play and I'll have to wait for a couple of more days but I guess Brisbane is not cut out for our Pova :lol:

i have a feeling we might have to suffer through a couple of three setters in the first week of the ao...but if she makes it to the final 8.....super dominant maria will be in perfect form.

I'd rather she skip this tournament and get fully fit for the AO, than play it and risk further aggravating the injury.

Still, it'd be nice if we had one season where she never picked up any injury.

 

Hopefully it is more about precaution. No need to take a risk that could put her AO chances in jeopardy. Going in cold not ideal, but can also take pressure off.

 

Damn. Oh well, better to withdraw from Brissy than the AO.

 

Here is the article which suggests that Maria withdrew because of sponsors. She wanted to play in Brisbane and probably would play but the sponsors pushed her:lol:
