8 Jan : Courtside report and pictures
Reached the site at 8:45 am. At the entrance I met a former player who I forgot her name, she is Belgium player who won Volvo Women Open in the past. I asked her if you were a former Volvo Women Champion. She said "Yes", I'm Sabine Appleman (Spelling not sure). I've taken her picture.
The first match between Russia vs Czech rep. start at 10:00. A young player from CZE, Barbora Strycova admired me a lot. Anyone please give more information about her ? How old is she ? What's her ranking. She played so well like top 100 player. She don't fear, playing nothing to lose. She is hitting the ball flat. Myskina is also hitting the ball flat as well. It seems like Barbora love the way Myskina hitting the ball. There are many good rallies points. Myskina leads 3-0 but Barbora fought back to 3-3. Myskina won 1st set 6-3. 2nd set, Barbora leads 4-3 and she should make that game to take a lead 5-3 if Myskina did not hit netcord ball. At the tie-break, Barbora made so many UE and could not win a point. Myskina won 6-3,7-6(0).
I'm going to watch Marat vs Jiri....

Just came back from the site.
It's really good match between Marat vs Jiri. Both players were playing well. They have the same style of play, having big serve, having big groudstroke. The 1st set, both hold their service game. Jiri won tie-break in 1st set. IMO, I have to give a credit to Jiri, he has consistent game and not much made an UE. After Jiri won the 1st set, I think he could won the match very easy in second, but Marat fought back in 2nd set. At 6-6 tie-break, Marat hitted backhand cross court (sharp angle) passing shot and won the second set. Marat seem like having confident back after won that tie-break, he broke Jiri's serve in the beginning of the 3rd set. He was down 2 break points 15-40 in the 5th, 7th and 9th game, but he saved 6 break points with big serve. Marat won 6-7,7-6,6-3. Glad to know Marat come back and played well again.
Russia lost Czech rep in mixed double 6-3, 6-7, 10-8 (super tie-break).

Jiro, no pics of Barbora ??
thanx for your pics and reports all week
Barbora is 17 and winner of Aus Jrs in 02 and 03.
Was World Junior champ in 2002.
She's ranked around 140 with 11 events.
She's gonna be pretty good. thread in GM.

This is the best one I have. Today during Jiri vs Marat match, I'm waiting her at the entrance of player box, I just waited for awhile but she was sitting until the match finish. Anyway I try again tomorrow. I'm pretty sure she will be entering top 100 soon. |
