Seed Petrova outclasses Frazier
VILLANOVA, U.S. (Reuters) -- Russia's Nadia Petrova outclassed American Amy Frazier 6-4 6-0 in the first round of the Advanta Championships in Villanova.
The seventh-seeded Petrova, who reached the semi-finals of this year's French Open and the fourth round of the U.S. Open, blasted seven aces past Frazier.
She will play Slovakia's Martina Sucha in the second round.
In the day's other first round match, Germany's Marlene Weingartner beat Angela Haynes of the U.S. 6-3 6-4 to set up a match against 10th seeded Slovenian Tina Pisnik.
In second round action, fourth seed Chanda Rubin of the U.S. defeated compatriot Alexandra Stevenson 6-2 6-4 to continue a good run.
Rubin reached the final in Luxembourg last weekend before falling to world number one Kim Clijsters of Belgium.
Ninth seed Meghann Shaughnessy pounded fellow American Ashley Harkleroad 6-3 6-1 to ease into the last eight.
Another American, Lisa Raymond also advanced, after outlasting qualifier Jelena Jankovic 2-6 7-5 7-6.
France's Amelie Mauresmo and Anastasia Myskina of Russia are the top two seeds in a tournament that has been blighted by the withdrawal of several high profile players.
