Feliz cumple, Gaby! Tan linda como siempre!
I've got the article that was posted on the "Gaby Sabatini Thread". I'll try to scan it tomorrow.
Here's a small interview. Enjoy!
Watching her comments about not being number one, make me shock inmensingly.
She never (and her team) quite figured out that she would have been number one if she had skipped Canada and Los Angeles 1991 (which she instead played with injury)....... where in 1990 she had bad results in those events, and erasing them from her points would have upped her average in a way that not even winning those events in 1991 titles would have... She never got it.... I would not even want to think how much her ranking would have gained if she had opted to skip Berlin 1991, which was another event she bumped out early in 1990 and opted to play despite having a busy schedule in March-April run from the VS Florida W, Miami F, Hilton Had W, Amelia Island W, Rome W......
Graf skipped an event she won in 1990 to get to number one in 1991 in August, her average went up enought to pass Seles by a decimal of points ahead of Seles. Graf and her team knew it better!!!

Bronco - total sleaze...like grease under the refrigerator sleaze.
Spencer - what was she saying? I guess if it isn't official, it isn't relevant (bummer). Gabriela played way too much tennis, period. She burned out sooner as a result. It's all good though...still awesome.

Gaby loved to play tennis and she always fulfilled her commitments to tournaments sometimes they were good and bad choices but she made them in good spirit.
Steffi needed to be number 1 she lived for it either through her own desire or the desire of her dad so she was more tactical on what she did and did not play.

Oh yes, there's no knock there. She was a tennis lover with youthful eagerness. Yet, it's always wise to take breaks and it would be awesome if a supportive group could provide the ability to persuade a step back for the better good.
Unfortunately, that same love for tennis didn't last. The love for the game quickly turned into obligation and confusion clouded that previous passion and desire. It happens to anyone in any field. She has stated herself, those last (more than just a few years) were full of struggle. 4/10 years is pretty significant especially as a young adult.

Gaby was lamenting herself over the fact that she never got to number one. Got to be one match away from it.. (i think at Roland Garros 1991).
Gaby not being number one in 1991, had a lot to do with terrible scheduling than not having enough results to get there. Gaby would have been number one for a quite nice time from May-June til after the Usopen 1991 if she had skipped the events i metioned....
