The new tennis stadium is beautiful, but half empty, so we were able to meet a few of the players who were milling around. The match between Hurosova v. Grande was much more competitive than Sharapova vs. Srebotnick. Sharapova may weigh more than Dani H. but not much

they are very similar in build and playing style. Maria S got a code violation warning for coaching, but instead of kicking up a fuss, she went right back playing. Her serve was up to 102 MPH sometimes, but she must have had at least 4 DFs

Met Maggie Maleeva, Virgirnia Ruano Pascaul, and Chanda Rubin who were all very cheerful and gracious. Saw Dokic who seemed to be in a good mood, but the people working there said, Sharapova was acting like a diva!!

Overall I was impressed!!

Isnt this a IMG tournament...so maybe she feels entitled because she is an IMG talent...

I'm sure Max is giving Maria free reign to do as she pleases, because if she really lives up to the hype...it will make his career and and give him much clout at IMG...

yes, you are right, this is an IMG tourney...maybe Maria is the their next big thing...she certainly has the talent to back up the hype...but's she's awfully thin...hope she doesn't catch whatever it is Dani H has

Hey, IMG is pushing Sharapova like mad. Last year at Indian Wells there was some IMG guy walking around with a cell phone to his ear talking about the big problems they were having. Seems that they had a photo shoot all scheduled for Maria, but then she went and won her match (she had a wildcard) and now they were going to have to reschedule the photo shoot. It was interesting to listen to him going on and on -- plus he didn't seem that happy about her wining which you would think he would be since she was in the second round of a very nice tournament.

do you mean Angie Haynes? She plays tonight, but I did see her there with her family. Dad, Mom (?) and someone who could be her little sis...she seemed really happy, just a kid at a tennis match, someone had to tell me she had qualified for the tourney

Robrich, why does it matter that Maria isn't much heavier than Daniela?

Masha is 4 years younger than Dani and she's already atleast 7 pounds heavier right now if you believe the WTA Tour guide. And they are about the same height. In a couple years Maria will be 20 pounds heavier than Daniela.

And I think Maria was just looking for her father in the crowd. It's not right that she got a warning for coaching for that.
