Chinese cite logo low blow
Blame it on Toronto.
That's the view some Chinese officials and Olympic fans are taking after a Toronto-based Web site, gamesbids.com, unveiled the official logo for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics in advance of a splashy launch planned for Aug.3.
Rob Livingstone of Toronto, a project management consultant who runs the Web site, said he got the logo from the British trademark database. He said it was also available through the United States trademark database June 5.
The logo was originally scheduled to be made public May 25 in the Chinese capital, but was postponed because of the SARS outbreak. The International Olympic Committee still went ahead and registered the logo as a trademark internationally.
"You can't imagine the hate mail I'm getting over this," said Livingstone. "They've gone as far as to suggest this is Toronto getting back at Beijing for losing the 2008 bid and exporting SARS."
The logo resembles the Chinese character "wen," which according to gamesbid.com can mean humanity (renwen) or culture (wenhua). It is on a traditional Chinese seal-cutting.

i don´t like it too!!!
here is what i found out, about the meaning
it is a kind of traditional Chinese art of seal cutting
the character inside the "seal" is a Chinese character "wen", meaning "humanity" (renwen) or "culture" (wenhua).
It also looks alike the Chinese character "Jing", meaning "capital" or simply "Beijing".

but then it is very similar with the sydney 2000 logo
btw - thats the official bid logo from paris 2012
