The New Harry Potter: But WAY Better

If you liked Harry Potter but are older than 11 years old :

Philip Pullman - His Dark Materials Trilogy:

1 - Northern Lights
2 - The Subtle Knife
3 - The Amber Spyglass

They've won awards already, and are WAY better written and more entertaining than Harry Potter.

The Harry Potter series is the most over-hyped book series, ever. In my opinion people should read stuff other than them, it seems that people just read Harry Potter and nothing else!

Narnia wins hands down anyway. Narnia rocks.

Yeah, the "new" Harry Potter - and much better (speaking as an adult)

They're not for everyone, but I'd get in now and read them because they will soon be a 'must-read'.

I finally got around to reading them and they didn't really do that much for me. It's much better written than Harry Potter, certainly, but I got a bit bored of the main character.

don't know these books, should check them out seeing HP will soon be over but i've read a few of those 'better than potter' books and i've yet to find the book that has such an exhaustive world as the one created by JK Rowling. Now i'm reading Diane Duane and after a few hundred pages i'm still not completely sucked into it - i've got the first three books so she still has enough time to persuade me

a true contender for HP was Groosham Grange by Anthony Horowitz but i read that one like a decade before the first potter book so yeah...

I refuse to read any Harry Potter books until the entire series is complete so I won't get irritated at having to wait.

I have, however, read the His Dark Materials Trilogy and agree that it's worth looking at if you like that kind of stuff. It made me sad at the end though .

I did enjoy this series and thought it was very well written but the story itself didn't capture me as much as the Harry Potter series has. JK Rowling has a gift in that way.

I will be going to see the movies of this series when they are released. The 1st one is in production at the moment.

Personally i prefer the Harry Potter series but each to their own.

Oh and it really annoys me when people say that Harry Potter is for 11 year olds and younger. If you had read them the first 2 i'd say are for 9-12 year olds then the books get darker and more adult and by the last 2 i wouldn't really class them as childrens books.

Cause I was wondering. I read the Golden Compass, but then I didn't see it there . But as they are one and the same . I agree to an extent. The trilogy is awesome. But I don't consider it better than Harry Potter. They both have unique qualities about them that I like. I don't think it's fair to compare the two.

well a recommendation from YOU ( ) i take more serious than one that starts with "if your older than 11". if a book is good, its good. and there would not be any difference between age 11 and 12.

by the way have you read the eragon books. they are not "like harry potter" but they are sci-fi and pretty good. like harry potter its got one book left. but i think its coming out soon.
