When will Dinara pull things together?

i've seen he play once and that was against serena so it doesn't really count as seeing her cause there wasn't much to see. she is yet to have a really good result this season. i've heard that she has a lot of talent, to be hinest i hate late bloomers so i'm hoping dinara will have another breakthrough soon but i'm getting tired of waiting. even if she just got inside the top 50 i'd be happy. c'mon dinara you can do it!

I watched a bit of her match vs. Molik yesterday. Safina seems to have a big enough game to hit with pretty much any of the girls...her problem (like her brothers) is stringing it all together, constructing points, and just making better shot selection at key times. Until she is able to do that stuff, she won't get that much higher...but she is young, so hopefully she will!!!

yeah but what i'm saying is that it's time for her to start doing that now if she wants to be at the top of the game in the future.

How impatient are you? she's very young, she has a lot of time. she's done quite a lot for her age already.

yeah i know. i'm not impatient. it's not like i want her to be in the top 10 now. i just want her to go to a low tier tournament and maybe reach the quraters or semis. at the moment she isn't winning many matches and even if she wins one match she struggles to win a second in the same tournament so she should try to get some match play in and some wins and do well at a tournament which woould help her confidence. i want her in the top 50 that is only 10 places higher than she is now i don't think it is to much to ask. i don't think she has even reached a quarter-final this year and that worries me because she did so well last year. i like to see players make progress each year rather than start well then not play well for a couple of years and then rapidly rise. look what happened to bovina her rise was so quick she is having trouble this year and i like it when players gradually get better so they have the momentum with them.

Hingis' rise was pretty quick. So were the rises of countless other great players. Why wouldn't you want that?

gowza, she's doing absolutely fine and is in absolutely no danger of underachieving. GIVE HER TIME. Every single player loses matches that can be attributed to growing pains.

now look, I hate the way the people on these boards just freak out after one match.

And yes, she has a QF result this year. But you know what you've failed to realize about her results? Her best results from last year came at small rinky dink events. She's playing on the big tour now, and still doing alright for herself. You cannot expect her to burn up the big events like she did the Sopots and Estorils of the world. This is a trial by fire for her, and so far it's going pretty well.

i'm not expecting her to burn up the big events. that's why i said i want her to play some low tier events and do well in them. but she has only got past the first round of a slam once and that was in her first slam. but she has had difficult opponents.

Gowza, there is no reason for her to play low tier events. None. she has shown what she can do there. She doesn't need to win there anymore. it's time for her to make it in the big leagues.

i still think it wouldn't hurt to play one or two low tier tournametns to get some match play and some confidence.

Perhaps there's a pattern here: her mother (Raousa?) Islanova is an "actual tennis coach". She was Marat's B4, too, with Myskina inbetween. The last of this group only made that huge leap in the rankings in '02 after she split with "Mama Safina" and was coached by (Svitoslav?) Mirza. Of course, the Contessa (or her agent) later fired Mirza to save $, figuring that the combination of her boyfriend on tour and a week @ Robert Lansdorp's academy here and there would suffice; no doubt she regrets that decision now if not in total "de-nile". Back to Dinara: IMO, she tried to go "too far too fast". (Compare that with Sharky playing some Challengers or Vera Douchevina and Maria "Kirilenkova" staying in the juniors for now while Dinara "hasn't bothered with" either route for perhaps a year and a half now). Mama Mia!

Shes still too young to play many tournaments, but once the restrictions come off i'm sure we'll see her move up the ranks more. Shes been getting a few tough draws this year, playing Myskina and Molik in the first rds of slams isnt easy. She actually did a good job to take a set off Molik on her favourite surface. I dont think theres anything to worry about yet with Safina.

I think she's doing relatively well. Most of the matches she's lost are tight and against good players. You can see she's almost there and before you know it, she's going to be winning them!

I think she's learning from every match and the experience she's getting is going to pay off BIG!
