Re: 2014 European spring: The clay is more red in the City of Lights

I do think everyone is overreacting a bit, even if the draw is more difficult than we had hoped. Garcia is tough and could be dangerous, but a) her form has dipped and b) if Ana can't beat the likes of Garcia, then we've really been overestimating her form this year.

From that point, I am not worried in the slighest about Svitolina. Ana was TERRIBLE in their Indian Wells encounter. If she plays well, Svitolina has absolutely nothing in her arsenal (mid-power shots, prone to unusual errors, shaky serve) that should trouble Ana too greatly.

And then we potentially have Safarova. This match, I agree, could be very tough. With that said, Safarova hasn't been too impressive lately, so perhaps she won't make it that far. Maybe Dellacqua instead?

Looking even further ahead, Kvitova probably won't make the 4th round here. She could easily lose to Diyas in the first round or Kuznetsova in the third round, or Giorgi in the third round, or Jovanovski in the third round, etc.

So, while this draw is more difficult than we had hoped, let's retain some perspective. Maria, Serena, even Radwanska are on the other side of the draw, so there is some opportunity here. If Safarova and Garcia are the highest quality players in Ana's path, then I don't feel so bad about her chances.

Don't be so sure as Garcia barely just played in the QF of Nurnberg yesterday.

They might want her to rest more.

Again, I'm not saying this is an easy draw, but I don't like to see us writing things like "first round loss coming!" We have to remember that Ana is still the favorite in this match, and for good reason. She's had a great clay court season and is playing with a renewed focus and love of the game, so let's have some faith in her abilities.

Garcia will play great, there's no doubt. It will be REALLY difficult to beat her. I'd rather have Errani or Aga in R1 tbh.

Guys, what's going on with you?

Garcia is good, but not the one Ana should lose to at this point Draw seems fine except damn Safarova in 3rd round

I hope she can make semis, she'll have good chance to do that, let's be positive

Re: 2014 European spring: The clay is more red in the City of Lights

Garcia was known for ages as being a terrible match player who routinely chokes big points and cannot close matches. It's only this year that she began to learn to win matches. She is definitely dangerous, but remember when she lost to Sharapova after being something like 6-1 4-1 up. She has no mental advantage on Ana, she has a similar tendency to be mentally weak, but admittedly she is very talented and has great shots.

I think Ana might have a fight on her hands but if she fights hard enough I expect her to come out of it the winner.

I will go with Ana in two sets, maybe 75 64 or something like that. DownTheLine has right. If Ana can't beat Garcia and Safarova, then we should not be talking about top 10 etc. She must win these matches. It wont be easy, but it's a must.

+ Maria/Serena/Radwanska are all in second part of the draw and it is a good thing.
