Martina wins another doubles!
Huber/Navratilova def. Asagoe/Miyagi 7-6 (8-6?), 6-3
That makes 167 singles titles, 169 doubles!!! WOW

Amazing isn't it.
As she already has all the records there is no logical place for Martina N to stop either.
Question though. How well was Martina N performing in doubles before she retired the first time - she was not getting past Natasha/Gigi etc 10-12 years ago if I remember rightly? Doesn't this tell us something pretty negative about the current doubles tour compared with the Natasha/Gigi/Jana/Larissa/ Helena/Martina H/Anna periods?

I really can't believe she has won 3 titles already this year - and we are only at the beginning of April.
I don't think it says that the standard of doubles has gone down from 10 years ago as Martian hasn't beaten the Williams Sisters, or Kim / Ai or Lindsay / Lisa etc = but a good victory over Paula and Virgina last week.
I think the state of doubles 10 years ago was just exceptional as you had about 10 very good doubles players all around the same standard who swapped partners a lot, which made for a very competitive top echelon of the game...
I wish Zvereva would play again this year :-)

Uhh, 10 years ago, Martina *WAS* beating Fernandez & Zvereva. (Zurich 1993). Her matches against them were always close.
Martina was ranked #5 in doubles when she retired from singles. However, during those last years, she also had singles to deal with and she did not play doubles at all events. Had she only played doubles back in 1993 or 1994, I'm confident she would have won a Slam or two.
