Nadal is actually very modest and nice. I've never seen a player so keen to taking a picture in a nightclub. He made sure we looked great lol and that we were happy with the picture (cuz we all know what alcohol can do to pictures). Honestly, you can hate Nadal but not deny that he's very nice.

I say Serena for the question. I think she's more expressive which makes you think sometimes that she's weaker. But Serena could still beat opponents on one leg only on her mental toughness. Or turn matches around in a hurry. Which I think Nadal does but not as often as Serena. Serena's saved so many match points en route to titles. Coming up with stellar shot on those match points. Although Serena has been weaker since coming back in 2011 (due to realizing she has less ans less time to break records)...overall I give her the edge

I totally agree.

Wait a minute! wow is that you, start da game?, we found a common ground. On gender topic of all subjects out there, this was the least I would have thought.

You are absolutely right.

While we are on it, I think BJK could out-mental some of the volatile males characters of McEnroe eras.

This is what I don't see from Nadal, so, having seen it from Serena, I really wonder why everyone talks about Nadal as if he's the toughest player, mentally, who's ever lived

Re: Serena W. vs. R. Nadal | Battle of mental strengths

These 2 last matches Serena won have truly put her on another level, that may have astounded few of the other WTA players not in Istanbul, but were watching.

I can see them scratching their head wondering, what does one have to do win a match against this woman?
She is dead tired, she is playing way the level we know she can, and still she could not lose.
She was not even on the brink of defeat in the final set.

She dominated the final 2 sets.
They all envy Virginie Razzano right now

Do they, though? These women can at least, some of the time, compete with Serena, and do well against the rest of the tour, including most of the top ten. Razzano had a lucky victory against a sub-par Serena (epic though it was, due to the drama etc. - not that that substituted for a very poorly played match, in the slightest), and has since won about four matches.

They shouldn't take their strategy from Razzano, especially if they're trying to work out how to beat Serena (a difficult enough task at the moment without it being made impossible by looking to Virginie for tactics).

On topic, during her last few matches, she's really shone in this regard. Always managing to fight back, even when visibly tired and aching. Amazing resilience.

Re: Serena W. vs. R. Nadal | Battle of mental strengths

Serena's game requires a mental strength on another level. She doesn't depend on her opponents' chokes in crucial moments; she wins the points.

Yes, they do envy Virginie.
She is the one lucky enough to catch her on off-day
And increasingly, some of the women are not shy of saying "You never know, she could have an off-day"

I think if you jut beat Serena Williams and enter the locker room, other players will look at you differently, with a mixture of admiration and envy, as in that could have been me, it could have been my day.

Perhaps. Sure, they hope for off days, and even then it's difficult, but I don't think they envy Razzano with all of her cirumstances (and abilities). They envy the opportunity she had. But this is just semantics, now

But to keep on topic, evidently, even on her off days, she's extremely tough to beat, as we've seen recently. It's rare to see an injured player pull through like that. It requires a lot mental toughness and physical endurance. (Venus has been doing it a lot recently (in the last year or so), which is admirable.)

Serena never lost 3 major finals in a row. Nah...it's a tough question, because the tours are different.
