I don't know if it's common in the place where you live, but here in Germany it's a nice tradition to have an advent calendar as a countdown for christmas. Door 1 - Peak Angie defeats Woz in Stuttgart

The first window is dedicated to Angie's unbelievable performance against Wozniacki in Stuttgart in 2012. In the second round of her home tournament, she defeated former No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki easily in two sets and showed one of the best matches of her career. With winners of all positions, amazing counterpunching and incredible defense she looked invinceble in this match and let Caro absolutely no chance. Although clay is not her best surface, she was absolutely stunnig that match. However, she lost in the next round to Kvitova in two tight sets but her rise to the top of the game continued in the next weeks.

Door 2 - First win at the WTA Tour Finals

Today's topic is Angie's first win at the Year-End-Championships in 2013. Angie was in a great shape before the tournament, reaching the final and Tokyo and winning the title in Linz. However, in her first round robin match she lost to eventual champion Serena Williams. After having lost all three matches in the previous year, Angie finally managed to win a match at this tournament in her second match against Agnieszka Radwanska. And it was an amazing performance of Angie. She showed a very aggressive and dominant tennis, hitting winners with forehand, backhand and even with her service. Aga had no chance and Angie remained in contenion for a place in the semifinals. The two participations at the event for the Top 8 players definitely belong to her most beautiful moments.

Re: Angie Advent Calendar

Great countdown Poldo! I haven't watched her as long as you, but love your posts so far. We don't do Advent calendars in USA as much, but may just be my backwood upbringing. Are you doing a 24 day advent countdown of her career?

I'm sorry but this reminds me of the movie "Bad Santa", my only naive exposure to this, no offense:

Door 3 - Quarter Finalist at Roland Garros

Another very special moment for Angie was her QF at the 2012 French Open. It was the second time in her career that she reached the round of last 8 at a Grand Slam tournament, the first time at the French Open. Although being everything but a clay court specialist, Angie took advantage of her good draw by defeating Zhang, Govortsova and Pennetta. In the 4th round, Angie probably showed her weakest performance of the tournament but her fighting spirit let her get the win over Petra Martic in two tight sets. Angie was under a lot of pressure during this tournament because she entered the Top 10 for the first time one week before the tournament started, so the expectations in her were a lot higher. But she handled it, although she lost in the next round to eventual finalist Sara Errani.

Not many highlights of this match, but two nice rallys (one of them is the very long rally which lead to BP for Angie) and the match point:

I know some similar things like the Advent calendars are done here in the US as well, but definitely not as a tradition like in Germany. I like it. So Poldo, from what I'm getting, you are posting every day until the 24th, special moments of Angie's career and we all comment and share? Or do we also post moments as well?

The plan was just me with the videos because I'm afraid that you steal some moments I wanted to share later in December But comments are of course welcome!

Door 4 - First Big WTA Final in Cincinnati

One of Angie's biggest successes are her three big finals on the WTA Tour on Premier 5 level. She reached her first one in Cincinnati in August, 2012. After Angie had some problems in her first round against Babos, she improved fastly and got more wins over Hlavackova, Serena Williams (we come to this one later ) and Kvitova to reach the final. Her game in this tournament was characterized by strong defense which brought her the wins over several hard hitters. In the final against Li Na, she was very close to win the whole tournament after leading 6-1 3-1. But after a coaching, Li changed her tactic and played with more spin which made Angie huge problems. She lost 6-1 3-6 1-6 in the end but it still was a great success.

Highlights of her final against Li and a longer summary of her semifinal against Kvitova:

Re: Angie Advent Calendar

Door 5 - Happy Birthday, Angelique!

Today's moment has nothing to do with sports, but was still a quite emotional and nice one for Angie. On her 25th birthday, Angie had to play her 3rd round match at the 2013 Australian Open against Madison Keys. Angie won this match which was interrupted due to rain once in two sets. But the organizers of the Australian Open didn't forget about her birthday, gifted her a cake and let the whole Rod Laver Arena sing for her. The special atmosphere was increased by the closed roof. It was very enjoyable for Angie, who said later that the Australian Open are her favourite tournament along with the US Open where her whole story began. However, it is her least successful one, her best result is the 4th round in 2013 and 2014.

Here is the full video of her Happy Birthday song: (She's so cute in here!)

Door 6 - Maiden Title in Paris

Today's door is about Angie's first career title. After having reached one WTA Final in Bogota two years ago, Angie finally managed to win the Premier event in Paris. On her way to the final, Angie defeated Niculescu, Safarova, Wickmayer. But of course, the quarterfinal match against Maria Sharapova comes to our minds first. Angie showed a brilliant match against a good playing opponent and won against the former No. 1 in two sets. Her final opponent was Marion Bartoli of France. Although Angie won the first set, she struggled with her nerves in the second set and almost choked in this final. After having a lead in the second set, Bartoli could turn it around. But in the third set, Bartoli got tired, so Angie was able to get the trophy. With this victory, Kerber finally stated clear that her 2011 US Open run was no fluke and I became aware for the first time that she is on her way to become an absolute top player.

Short Highlights of her final against Bartoli and her victory over Sharapova in the quarter final:
