They may be good enough on clay, but none of them are Justine Henin.

You're right about that, but all but one of those players would be favored to beat Caro on clay. She was competitive on clay several years ago, but now I can't really expect anything from her on clay, or grass, for that matter.

That may be so, but you can't tell me she can't do better than she has the past couple of years. She made the quarters of The French a few years back playing on a bum ankle!

That would mean she isn't trying. Caroline was in finals of Madrid & Stuttgart, semis of Rome, won Brussels & Charleston, QF of FO.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 7

Clay and Caro... don't gel as of late. In Stuttgart she'lll be lucky to win R1. Madrid maybe a couple of rounds. Rome should be her best shot for a decent showing but probably R1-2-3.

Maybe this insistence of being more aggressive pays off on clay...I remember watching her against Kanepi at RG two years ago and she couldn't put a ball away. That said, I think it's more to do with her lack of confidence...on clay she has more time, her forehand should be much more stable and deep.

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 7

One of her best assets (movement) is nullified by the clay. And she struggles to "hit through" the court.

Then again, she has had some good results as mentioned, but not any time in recent years. So it's a combination of physical (technical) and mental factors.

Years ago. Just like years ago Pova was competitive on grass. Now she isn't. I'm not saying she can't reach a QF somewhere, but I don't expect her to win against any of the people mentioned above (maybe only Suarez Navarro if she chokes).

We can only wish Caroline is as competitive on clay or grass as Sharapova is on grass.
Sharapova was in the 2011 Wimbledon final. Lost in 2012 to Lisicki, who is the toughest underdog to play at Wimbledon in the whole draw, and was injured last year. Wimbledon was the last time she won a match in 2013.

Sharapova also made the 2012 Olympic final which was at Wimbledon. I don't blame Sharapova fans for wanting to forget that match though.

Here's a list of the players Caro has lost to on clay in 2012 and 2013. Who all are we considering as good on clay?

2013 Jovanovski (twice)
2013 Shvedova
2013 Suarez Navarro
2013 Voegele
2012 Kanepi
2012 Medina Garrigues (retirement - I think it was due to hay fever allergy or something like that)
2012 Serena
2012 Kerber

Re: Danish Delight - Caroline Wozniacki thread - vol 7

Should Caro add Tokyo and Birmingham to her schedule? Tokyo is a tournament that over the years she's tended to play well at. This year it should have a weaker field than in the past because it comes the week before the premier 5 and premier mandatory combo of Wuhan and Beijing. Birmingham has tended to have a weak field due it being the week after the French Open.

Winning at least 1 tournament a year has seemed pretty important to Caro these past couple of years. So far this year the prospects of her continuing that title winning streak seem challenging at least.

Tokyo is a double edged sword. It's going to be soft probably. But you also then risk blowing the really big points the 2 weeks after in the traditionally softest tier I's. It basically means playing 3 weeks in a row. Radwanska has paid for playing this week before. Having said that I expect her to play because supposedly Tokyo have been promised 4 top 10 players (though how they do this I don't know), and you can rule out a few of them immediately.

You enter Tokyo though and her schedule is probably going to look like this:
Montreal
Cincinnati
New Haven
US Open
-
Tokyo
Wuhan
Beijing
-
Moscow

That's an unbelievably tough schedule. I also assume she will play an international somewhere.

This year is Birmingham's first year as a Premier event. It will be tougher. Jankovic, Ivanovic, Lisicki are already signed up.

While you are right, I don't really see the importance of winning any title. It hasn't helped her the last couple of years, and doesn't really give her anything. She's still probably a favourite to win a title this year anyway. Moscow for one is going to have a horrendously weak field because no-one in Singapore the week after is going to play.
