Mayor Cup in Tarakan, East Kalimantan

I got this results directly over the phone from Wukirasih Sawondari!

Wukirasih Sawondari came out as the women's singles champion after defeating her good friend, Liza Andriyani 36 62 63 - Congrats, Wukir...u can do it if you want to!

In dubs, Wukir and Liza teamed up to grab the title after knocked down Dian Anggraeni/Mudarwati 61 60!

For men's singles-Davis Cup team member, Prima Simpatiaji def. Hendri Susilo Pramono 63 61! Wow, 2 weeks in a row with titles for Prima! Way to go...big server!

In men's dubs - old crack Bonit Wiryawan/Hendri Susilo Pramono def. Sebastian Da Costa/Andery Setiyawan - score unknown

It was the 1st time ever tourney here and it was held in a banrd new indoor stadium with total of 8 courts! Tarakan is ready to host an international tournament and PELTI may consider Tarakan to have 10K tournament next year! Congrats, Tarakan - small town with big money!

Congrats Wukir
Too bad for Liza though

Unhappy Our Indian specialist stumbled again!

Diana Julianto keeps her Indian tour on a low note! At Mumbai 10K, she is still struggling! In singles, after 1st round win over Russian Julia Vorobieva 63 76(9) then in 2nd round she lost to an experienced local player, Rushmi Chakravarti 16 46! Her luck is not good also in doubles with local player Shruti Dhawan. After 1st round win over Orawan Lamangthong/Sheethal Goutham (THA/IND) 61 61 then Diana/Shruti lost to 1st seed Manisha Malholtra/Radhika Tulpule (IND) 06 36!

FYI, Diana is actually having no coach at all since her father does not want her to have one. So, she practically goes on the tour by herself and she has noone to discuss about her game. Poor decision by her dad! For practice at home, she has hitting partner with former national player, Sulistyo Wibowo (older brother of Liza Andriyani)!

Well, Diana...you need to have a breakthrough by reaching QF again at least...You did it twice last year! Going into SF would be super! Never give up, Diana!

Indonesia v South Korea tie

Davis Cup tie on 1st day between Indonesia v South Korea 1-1!

Febi Widhianto def. Dong Hyung Kim 61 63 60
It was a sweet revenge by Febi! Febi lost to Kim last year in 3 sets in Thailand. Kim is Asian Champion in 1995 and 1997! Febi did not let Kim to play his serve and volley game!

Hee Seok Chung def. Peter Handoyo 75 62 21 ret
Peter was physically bad all the time! Until he got cramp and he decided to quit! Martina Widjaja was really pissed-off! She accused Peter for not being "nationalist" by giving-up like that! The doctor said that Peter got dehydration and if he kept on playing, his health could be worse!

Thanks for the short summary .

So typical of Martina .

I am sure she was talking all the time during the match and Peter had actually an ear injury, as they (I mean both of his ears) could not take it any longer .

Martina Widjaja will also be present at the Fed Cup, won't she .

Talking Back 2U, Steve!

LOL when u said Peter had ear injury, too! UR damn right! U know, last time when Indonesia played Uzbekistan, Martina was really bitchy to Febi all the time - the whole week in Tashkent, Febi was simply the victim of MW! But Febi played well as he won against local top player in the opening match! Again, now...Febi performed very well and Martina may have to shut her mouth unless naughty flies would get in! You know, Martina hates Febi's coach - Dedy Prasetyo. Dedy has been criticizing MW so much about her leadership conduct! But Dedy's tennis students like Febi, Hendri Susilo Pramono, Prima Simpatiaji as well as Sunu Wahyu Trijati are proven to perform well so far!

BTW, with this SARS' virus going on, do you think 25K in Ho Chi Minh city later this month is still gonna be on schedule?

I think MW likes only Suwandi .

I don't anticipate the $25K in Hochiminh City to be cancelled or even postponed. But I expect quite some withdrawals in the week to come . I wonder if Liza Andriyani intends to withdraw .

Other than that, I am very healthy thanks . I stay nearly 2,000km away from where the few SARS cases have been discovered . And so does the tournament .

Thumbs down Bad news!

Steveg...I have asked Wukir/Wukirasih Sawondari - a good friend of Liza - Yes, Liza has confirmed that she is cancelling her participation at 25K in HCM City! For sure, both Liza and Wukir are going to compete in 10K - 1st in Jakarta (May 5-11) and Surabaya (May 12-18)!

Smile Indonesia - South Korea: 2-1

After over 2 hours delay due to heavy shower, double match began after dark between Peter Handoyo/Suwandi against Hee Seok Chung/Hee Sung Cheng and final score 75 64 64 for Indonesian duo!

It was a sweet revenge by Peter/Suwandi when they lost to the same pair in Busan Asian Games last year. Head to head record in Davis Cup tie between South Korea and Indonesia is 6-4 for South Korea since 1976.

Last meeting in 2001 and it was in South Korea when Indonesia lost 1-4! The only match won for Indonesia was by Suwandi when he defeated Lee Hyung Taik 64 64!

Come on, Indonesia!

Thanks for the news, Adji

Go Indonesia
How could MW accused Peter of not being nationalist. He has been so good so far in davis cup. You know, sometime, it's just not your day. I'm glad that they didn't ask Suwandi to play the single. Otherwise we may have down 0-2
