Re: Petra beat Venus in Tokyo, playing Angelique in the final

Petra

What a great win I've missed you to play this good

Kerber next, it won't be easy this speed HC suits her game style perfectly and she plays great this whole week, but I'm sure Petra is ready to beat her

C'mon Petra

Petra wins first set 62. Calls her coach -> gets bagelled in the second set.
Takes a toilet break -> 4-0 lead in third set.

Conclusion. Toilet break gives better coaching than David Kotyza

Re: Petra beat Angelique in the final

I got to see the 3rd set of Petra's win over Kerber. She played very well overall and overpowered Kerber for the most part. There were a couple hiccups along the way that looked like the recent troubled Petra, but she was able to pull out the win.

Re: Petra beat Angelique in the final

Well, guys, she did it. For all of her struggles and problems, she has won 2 Premier titles this year. Proud of her and glad she took advantage of the draw opening up. Some nice wins along the way, as well. That semi over Venus could really turn things back around for her(hopefully). I wanna see more of the 1st and 3rd set Petra.

Re: Petra beat Angelique in the final

Congrats!
Second set never happened, probably some nightmare when felt asleep.
Angie really is Golden Retriever, luckily she was mostly off comparing her match with Caro.
So 2011 mostly Europe titles, 2012 America, 2013 Asia, 2014 Australia?

Re: Petra beat Angelique in the final

Nice match By Petra, where she was overly dominant for the most part, leaving Angie a mere spectator.

I think Petra could have helped herself much more in this match, if she would have came to the net earlier/more often on many of her deep shots, by not just settling to play from the backfield. Angie did not control her fate in this match. And playing this way would have cut down her opportunities to win points (usually from Petra errors) even more so.

Nice first set by Petra. Could have won 6-1, or 6-0.

Second set, Petra completely went to La La land, by gifting Kerber the set. Kerber had her moments on offense and defense for sure. However, [and to be quite honest] it was mostly Petra' siesta that accounted for the lopsided score. Petra had 6 W 13 UE. While Kerber had 4 W 2 UE, in a 6-0 set. SMH

Third set, Petra took the reins again, by leading 4-0 to start, then had a few hiccups, until she eventually started playing more aggressively, moving forward, and she held on/won.

Note: David Kotyza, has to be the dumbest coach on the planet. What Hubris or Naivete?

I could not believe (and said to myself at the time) "what the hell is this guy doing talking to Petra after such a spectacular, focused first set"!?

I just felt "he could only throw her off her rhythm, since she appeared so focused and business like, especially for the 2013 edition of Petra.

I know this is something Kotyza and Petra like to do, regardless of how she plays. However, Kotyza should know better. And I thought it was just dumb. Him [probably] cracking his stupid jokes (cause remember, he has nothing else to say/add), probably threw Petra off. Not that Petra needs much encouragement to be thrown off, in a match she knew she was mostly in control of. But it was just [another] a stupid move by them.

Nonetheless, congratulations to Petra. Good luck in Beijing, and with your new #7, and # 6 WTA and Race Points rankings.

Please play better on a whole (not just in spurts), hopefully leading into next year.

Re: Petra beat Angelique in the final

After a long week, Petra couldn't have asked for a better R2 opponent in Beijing - her H2H with Lepchenko is 6-1 6-2, 6-2 6-1, 6-1 6-0. If she doesn't fuck that up she may then face Errani for a QF spot.
