Austria has the Alps and ......
Would be cool to find some of you who are intressted in Austrian Tennis and not only in Babsi Schett.
Who of you can remember retired Austrian players and their career higlights
And who do you think which are the most promising players

Well...retired player...
Barbara Paulus (Highest Rank No.10)
Judith Wiesner (Top 20 Player)
Beate Reinstadler
Petra Ritter-Schwarz (1/4 French Open)
Sylvia Plischke (1/4 French Open)
Petra Huber
Sandra Dopfer
I think Barbara Schwartz has many potential, but her injuries don´t let her come in higher rankings.

Well, there's that gorgeous young girl called Babsi ... and yes I know there are others. Last time I saw Sylvia Plischke, though, it was in a $25K in England.
Retired Austrians : Thomas Muster is one.

(I just wish Babsi could re-gain her form and make it back into the Top 10 again!)

what do you think about the young girls
there is a 13 year old girl called Stefanie Rath and she has a career record of 16-0. She played 3 international tournaments and won all three (Dubai, Doha and Salzburg)
there are others like Marielle Weihs (gave Sania Mirza a good fight in Benin City); Dani Kix, Melanie Wolkersberger, Yvonne Meusburger and Tina Schiechtl

Barbara Schwartz is one of my favourite players to watch.Too bad she's been unlucky with injuries. She has a lot of potential.
I also saw Patricia Wartusch last year's Fed Cup and I like her a lot too.Good groundstrokes she has.

I like Barbara Schwartz, Barbara Schett, Daniela Kix, Tina Schiechtl, Kati Wolner, and Jenny Zika
of the younger girls, I think it's hard to say who has the most promise, because none of them have had *that* much experience yet, but who knows. I hope Jenny Zika will improve more but she hasn't played much
I was disappointed that Plischke retired, she had potential to do more than she did, she was a really intelligent player with a good game.
Not much of a fan of Wartusch

poor Jenny
I really hate when players can't pursue their careers because of sponsorship issues. It is especially disappointing in Jenny's case because she is one of the better younger Austrians, so it's a real shame no one is willing to at least give her a chance to give tennis a real shot at

thats the problem in Austria
there are so many who are having troubles with the OETV (austrian tennis association)
e.g. Jenny Schmidt and Nicole Melch are hardly playing in Austria
Barbara Hellwig, Bettina Auer and Isabella Mitterlehner are forced to retire at an age between 20 and 25
Kati Wolner or Eva Hoch for example (Dont know if you know them) are daughters of some people in a very high position of the OETV so they never hd problems

i know for a face that Jenny Zika had a sponsorship offer last summer from a german company but her coach (who was something like an official austrian coach) blocked that offer down, as he said:
I will take care of such things in behalf of her, and she has got better offers from an Austrian Company....... If that should not work out, we get back in touch with that Germans!
Reading that Jenny retired because of no sponsors, i checked back now, and neither Jenny nor her Coach ever got in touch with them!
What went wrong here?
