Thanks again, Rose.

I'm pretty sure Tammy's ranking will remain in the Top 40. I wonder why she thought it'll drop to about 50?

Hope she comes back to the tour refreshed and refocussed. Go Tammy!

I think perhaps Tammy is more like me than I imagined...our worst case scenarios are often MUCH worse than the reality of our failures to accomplish our goals/tasks. She probably thought that the loss of the Wimbledon points would send her on a freefall. I thought the same about her 1st round RG loss, but it was not that many spots.

She called me this morning and is still concerned about her ranking, but she plans to do a bit of training in Miami, fly home to Thailand to do a junior tennis clinic, and then return to L.A. around the 24th of July to get ready for the San Diego tournament.

I assured her that players ahead of her didn't do that well at Wimbledon this year, and there aren't that many players behind her that are going to make huge strides in the rankings. She's got to learn to focus on herself and not be too concerned about others! (Too bad I'm not good at taking my own advice!)

6 July "Tammy Ka"

"The Lessons Learned from Losing in the First Round"

Hello, tennis fans and readers of "Tammy Ka."

The owner of this column has traveled back to Thailand this past week after being eliminated in the 1st round of Wimbledon.

In reviewing the aftermath of the my round loss, even if I am disappointed about it, isn't all negative. There are a many positive things that I was able to develop within myself after analyzing the event that happened.

The first thing that I could see clearly is that losing early at Wimbledon made me more mature. In the past when I would lose in the first round at various tournaments, I admit that besides being disappointed, I would also cry, but this past Wimbledon loss was strange in that nothing like that happened. After I had a chance to think about it, I think it was because I became emotionally stronger.

Aside from this, I also gained a strange new power within myself. At the same time, I am ready to make the changes necessary to become even better. This resulted in really good and hard practice sessions and a fiestier attitude toward my tennis.

I feel like I have been working 100% harder than before, or if not quite 100% sometimes, at least I feel like from now on, I will work twice as hard as I did in the past.

I think that tennis players that have competed professionally in the world tour for a long time must have inner strength and dedication that exceeds 100%. This is especially true for the Top Ten players in the world who have been there for a long time. They must be better than everyone else, especially when it comes to inner strength and dedication.

Fans of tennis will notice that in women's tennis, the players that get far in the big tournaments seem to be the same 6 or 7 players that do well every tournament. These are the players that I have noticed have something different from everybody else on the tour.

As to whether I can develop myself to the same level or not, that's a very difficult question to answer, but I can promise all my fans that I want to develop into a better player than I am now, even if I am getting older and don't have that many years left in my professional career.

As for the next tournaments on my schedule, I am going to play in the US and Canada with the main goal being the US Open. The four tournaments I will play in include:

August 4-10 $635,000 JP Morgan Chase Open in Los Angeles,
August 11-17 $1,325,000 Rogers AT&T Cup in Toronto, Canada,
August 18-24 $625,000 Pilot Pen Tennis Tournament in New Haven,
and the US Open, which is the final Grand Slam tournament for this year.

Right now I am in the middle of preparations for the next leg of the tour. Next week, I will share my progress report and more observations of the world tennis tour.

I don't know why she didn't mention her plans for training in Miami or the San Diego tournament, unless she's saving something for next week. It might also be that she doesn't know if she has to qualify or not for San Diego, but isn't that the case with the Pilot Pen tournament, too?

Anyway, do your best, Tammy!

Thanks Rose.

I'll be disappointed if Tammy doesn't end up playing San Diego. She lost in the 1st rd last year, so it would have been a great opportunity to get some points, and a better chance to get a US Open seeding.

Whatever her decision, all the best to Tammy!

I think Rose is now very busy teaching in Japan plus she still don't have internet at home so I just try to translate "Tammyka". (Sorry for my bad English)

"Tammy Ka" Column from 31 August Matichon Newspaper

"Thai people's dream, Tammy's dream"

I knows everybody happy for my latest victory over the number 9 seeded, Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia which made my new Grand Slam US Open record by reaching the 4th round for the first time.

Before the match, I thought that I will try my best, keep fighting until the end and not thinking about the victory. Still more than that I also was informed by my mom (Sunattra) that the King Bumipol Adulyadej is following my matches, that news encourage me having great spirit for my next match. I felt thankfulness of royal grace.

As soon as I was infromed the news from my mom, I told Alexandra Laws , personal trainer of Australia, a former world tri-athlete champion.(my personal physical fitness trainer). Alexandra Laws was exciting for that great news because I used to tell Alexandra that I'm Thai and Thai people love and respect the King. And my highest dream is just this once in my life to meet the King.

Back to tennis, I will tell the detail and my feeling in the match against Daniela Hantuchova, especially I made "embarrassing story" which happen to me in Center Court.

The first set, I played with my game plan which I tried to attack my opponent first and it's worked. It suited my game and Hantuchova made many unforced errors. The second set, Hantuchova started playing better and it was not going to be easy which I have done in the first set because I have to focus more and I can well continue my rhythm. The last game when I was leading 5-4 and serving for the match. At 30-30, I had service ace on the right time that give me the match point 40-30. That service ace made me a confident and I thought that I have to win this game. And I did it.

But before that I made "embarrassing thing" in Center Court. I was leading 4-3 and serving to take a leads 5-3. As soon as I hold my service and I thought that I won the match because I thought that I was leading 5-3. I was very happy, screamed, jumped and was walking toward the net for shake hand with Hantuchova. I felt someting wrong happened when I was walking at the middle of the court, the fans from the stands laughed. So I knew that the match was not over yet. I was really laughing about myself. I just said that, "Oh, if I gonna finish this match and won it, I'm gonna jump more than the one before."

Many tennis fans asked about who is Alexandra laws.

Alexandra Laws was a a Australian nation former world tri-athlete champion who is a specialist in physical fitness training. She used to train Ai Sugiyama, current top 20 player before. I'm working with her more than 3 weeks on physical fitness training and nutrition program. She help me a lot and also my coach, Pee Tum (Pranomkorn Pudchuenil).

Next match is Amelie Mauresmo which will be tough because Mauresmo is in great form. I will play nothing to lose, not put pressure on myself because I have reached my goal. I will try my best, doesn't matter win or lost.

------------------------
Once again, sorry for my bad English.

Correction Alexandra Laws' name in my last post "Tammyka".

Alexandra Laws is Tammy's short period Australian physical fitness trainer, a former world tri-athlete champion.

15 February 2004 "Tammy Ka" Happy Belated Valentine's Day!!!!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH! Got too greedy! Almost got finished translating the whole article when my touch keypad decided to backspace for me DAMMMMMMMMMMIT!

Sorry! Will try to do it again when I have sufficiently calmed down.

Note to self: Baby steps, baby steps. Small bites, small bites...

I'm back again, fans!

After disappearing for many weeks due to matters related to competitions, which made it inconvenient to be in contact.

My performance in the past week's Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan made me feel pretty bored and tired, I admit.

However, after thinking about the reasons for my poor performance and bad start to the season, I realised that I have too many things to handle off the court. Such matters keep me from having the proper concentration and motivation to do my job on the court.

After this assessment, I thought that it is normal for us to face obstacles in our lives from time to time, but no matter how large or how many, if we are ready to face them head on, we will one day be able to come back.

Regarding my recent fall in the rankings, I am not taking it too seriously because the ranking is a number, and like in any sport, you win some, and you lose some. If we become obsessed with the number too much, we can find no peace.

I was in this situation before, the last time being 3 or 4 years ago when my ranking was in the 70s. I also seemed to be in a slump at that time, but I kept struggling to get back to where I was. The turning point was my effort at the 2000 Hopman Cup in Australia with Paradorn Srichaphan where we were the Cinderella team and runners-up. After the Hopman Cup, I was able to improve my performance on the tour as well, until I made it to the Top 30.

But that doesn't mean that this time will be like last time. I may or may not be able to make it back to my former rank, but I have to try my best.

I want to thank all of my fans who have always been there and who have been sending e-mails to support me, no matter how badly I do.

As for the next tournament, I will be traveling to Hyderabad, India to defend my title from February 16-22. I know my form isn't as good as it was last year, but I am going to do my best and I won't think of defending the title. This is just another tournament...

so that I don't put too much pressure on myself.
