For a couple of years now I have heard this word arrogant thrown around by certain people.

They used to say they hated the Sisters because they are arrogant, now they say they hate the Sisters because their fans are arrogant. Well big f'in deal, somehow I think you will always have an excuse not to root for the best players in the game and hopefully they will break you little hater hearts over and over and over...

You say arrogance, I say PRIDE.

I believe those people are insecure, little twerps who can't just root for their faves; they need to moderate the way others, specifically Williams Fans root for their faves.

A lot of it is totally cultural (from Jack Johnson to Ali to "Prime Time" to Hip Hop battles, with a special mention for Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins and Big Daddy Kane; if you don't know you betta go ask somebody)...

So what if someone posts that Venus "crushed" someone or "smacked the taste out of her mouth". Or Serena "spanked that ass" or my personal favorite gave someone "a free tennis lesson". Thats the way a lot of sports fans speak. If you want others to respect your culture you should respect ours. WE WILL TALK SOME SMACK!!! We will talk about kicking ass before matches and we will declare ass kicked when it is kicked after matches.

It's all in fun and if you don't like it...

...don't read it (actually you're all going to read it anyway because you haters are more obsessed with the sisters than their fans are).

I strongly encourage Williams fans to be loud and proud; don't apologize for being happy about a first round victory. Every win is a blessing.

Cheer for every victory no matter who they are beating because you know the whining ones will be cheering against the Williams Sisters no matter who they are playing.

Oh and definitely laugh at whoever you choose to (especially the usual suspects); it is only a tennis match after all.

And keep defending them against all the negativity out there (as aside, if the sisters "can't play doubles" what does that say about the rest of the WTA and doubles specialist in particular?).

I love the way haters are complaining that they can't criticize/insult the sisters in peace (boo f'in hoo).

Just what player on this board can you insult without expecting a rebuttal (by the way the answer to that question is Alexandra S. but be careful because she can beat your faves on any given day- and probably already has).

I also love the "Williams fans think that they win something when the Williams sisters win"...

...newsflash, we do win something; the euphoria of victory, the satisfaction of seeing our faves rise from a wacky guy's dream to the greatest players in the game. If you aren't enthusiastic and happy when your faves win, I pity you.

You need to lay off the "sour grapes". You have Indian Wells all to yourself, enjoy it. We all know the Sisters will lose again and suddenly it will be okay to celebrate victories again...

In closing, I'm damn proud that the last few slams have been "A Williams party and no one else is invited". When they lose I will be sad and when they win I will be happy. I've been smiling for a long long time. Its a PROUD smile.

All I care about is winning slams!!! Whether is was Chrissie E., Young Monica or the Williams Sisters.

I actually hope someone takes a couple of the warm ups tournies on clay so the sisters will be hungrier when the French rolls around. Oh who am I kidding, I never want the Sisters to lose other than to each other.

Special shout out to Car Key Boi, I share your political outlook and wish some of these students could comprehend that the only way they get to hold hands and sing "Give Peace A Chance" is because the US has been playing world policeman.

I support their right to protest but I wish they would open thier eyes be it Nazis, Italian Fascists, Eastern Euro Commies, or scumbag terrorist supporters...

People who say V@S fans are arrogant, well just where in the hell were your silent keyboarding fingers when people said: V@S will NEVER win on clay, never win RG,never be 1, never win a title, slam tourney,never smile,don't shake hands, too arrogant. I don't recall people who claim arrogance NOW state anything about these arrogant comments. LOl, probably cause you were in my above example.

I've had plenty ass wuppings when I was a teenager and believe you me, none of them were particularly good. Hell, I didn't see too much "grace or courtesy", in those azzz wuppings either!!!

jouissant - Let me make one thing quite clear, what I wite on these boards in no way reflects my demeanor when I attend a tennis match.

I saw matches in which Capriati and clijsters played one of my favorite players and at no time did I even consider being so rude and uncouth as to yell during their opponents serve or to cheer at their misshits.

To write on a web board that VENUS crushed a player is nowhere near being at that match and acting the way some fans do to the WILLIAMS.

I have been to several and seen many tennis events and I have only seen fans treat those two athletes in that rude manner.
Maybe when the stands are more diversified, as they were in L.A., those individuals will then better control themselves.

Its one thing to be" proud" about someone's achievement and another to be "arrogant" about it . However there is a thin line dividing the two and some Williams fans ( like fans of any other player ) always cross that line.

I don't see how asking a question like " Why don't they give the trophy" directly to Serena ? " (without having to play a tournament) shows that you are proud rather than arrogant about what Serena is doing .

Yup, it's just pride. When I felt proud of my achievements at Uni I also went around and started laughing at those who don't have as high a diploma. "hahahahaha, I'm the best, I've got a Masters and you've only got a Bachelor"

I humiliated everyone else at Uni, I trounced them, I clobbered them, I crushed them, I taught all those worthless, useless dumb people a lesson.

Let me just throw something into the pot here…

Let’s pretend that we are all parents of children who play tennis for their high schools. Can you see where this is going?! So a group of parents take their children to a local tournament where teams of children from different high schools take each other on. At the end of the day the results are in and low and behold your child has done fantastically and has lead his/ her school to victory. You react to this by proclaiming to the other parent whose children have been beaten by your child “my boy/ girl really kicked your son’s/ daughter’s azz out there!” “He handed out a free tennis lesson” etc. Yes you may be saying these things because you are proud but is it really graceful and sportsman like?

A parent complains to you “don’t get in my face telling me how your son/ daughter kicked my son’s/ daughter’s azz”
You reply “I am showing my pride in them. It is my culture. If you don’t like it don’t listen.”
The annoyed parent retaliates “well if you are going to express your ‘culture’ in this way then I am going to call it what it is….arrogant. If you don’t like that then don’t listen to it.”

Do you see the catch 22 here? Rude in-your-face behaviour can be attributed to pride and culture but it does not change the fact that it is rude.

I actually believe that much of the ‘enthusiastic’ reaction of William sisters fans when their favs win is in retaliation to some of the more disrespectful posts that non-Williams fans post constantly. The problem here is that there is an amount of ‘stooping to their level’ and people who have nothing to do with these disrespectful posts become offended by this bravado.

Huh? This is a mere message board and many people have been arrogant and PRIDEFUL in here since whenever, but please spare me the ONLY THE WILLIAMS FANS ARE ARROGANT routine. All this V@S fans and arrogance is only making you look too damn arrogant! I know 0000 is arrogant, and QL,and gogomaggie and Bigtennisfan, and car key boi. Noticed that I named names instead of stating certain fans are arrogant.

p.s. My advice is to either ignore the certain poster or debate your ass off with them in many threads.

Well that's good to hear, TR but sometimes it can get annoying
when you read words like crush/kill etc to describe a defeat because sometimes the scorelines doesn't necessarily reflect the quality of the match (It's even harder to judge the match, when you haven't seen it)and it's demeaning to the opponent's fans.

I remember when Vee lost to Maleeva in Moscow- someone said she got crushed and I found that irritating(Venus lost 7-6 in the 3rd) but I guess at the end of the day it's just words.....
It's what you do and not what you say that counts .

Dawn, give me a bloody break. What makes you think I'm arrogant? I dont know what your definition of "arrogance" is but according to mine, I'm not qualified as "arrogant".
