It's a real shame she skips these events, because last year if she played one of Montreal/Cincy she would have been No.1 at the end of the year...
There are no guarantees that Maria can win any matches when she plays injured. A case in point is her 2013 Wimbledon loss to de Brito. It's fair to say that if Maria can lose to de Brito, she can lose to any other WTA players.
Maria, being injured, could've entered either Montreal/Cincy or both last year, but lost her first match(es) and earned 5 or 10 points.
The hope is that Maria plays well when she starts to compete again.
Stanford truly looking pathetic now. Lisicki also pulled out, citing a wrist injury. Radwanska is known as the queen vulture of the WTA, so now's a big opportunity for her to do just that.
One concern has to be that by the time the Rogers Cup in Toronto starts on Aug. 5th, Maria will have gone nearly 2 months playing a grand total of 3 tour matches. So with the combination of rust and new coaching, her early rounds could have some real rough spots.
