Wow, absolute best case scenario unfolds for me today. Over-hyped Sloane and Fat Petra get bounced and Sabine and Agi set up their interesting semifinal showdown. It's amazing how my mood about this Wimbledon has changed in just a couple of days. The hilarity of these semifinalists makes this tournaments acceptable for me.
No matter which of the 4 wins, I have no problem with the champion, even as random as Bartoli and Flipkens are. And I enjoyed watching the wiley veteran Marion school Sloane. But making a semi and a quarter in majors this year is good experience for Stephens, so she'll be back.
Sabine earned my respect with how she handled the pressure of Serena and, as I've said before, I like Radwanska, so that will be a good match and it's too bad it isn't the final instead of a semi. I think the final will be anti-climactic because whoever wins the Lisicki/Agi match will defeat either Bartoli or Flipper.
Wow, Petra. I just keep coming back to Maria and her amazing ability to blow opportunities . One of these SFists will have a slam this year. Not going to say who I'm rooting for of the people left in this tourney because they always seem to lose.
Imagine if Maria had survived to the semis and was facing the prospect of playing either Sabine or Agi in the final. Even without Serena and Vika, I think we'd still all be nervous wrecks. Those two have a very recent history of giving Maria big problems, so no guarantee for Masha's victory.
To me, it would make me a hundred times more nervous than Maria playing Serena because at least you'd feel she was the favorite and had a great chance to win if she was playing those other two. And so losing would feel a lot worse.
Oh, well. Not to be. At least we don't have to watch Serena or Vika celebrating again.
