Very true. Though, I myself have to say that I prefer longer, dynamic rallies much more than poof, bam, the game is over with 3 unreturnable serves and one winner as a result of another good serve

I'm not saying i want it to go back to the serve bot days but the court speeds of 10 years ago with variety amongst serfaces would be nice to give all the guys a chance. I mean look at the top 4. All counter punchers. I would love to give more of a chance to Fed, Berdych, JMD, Soderling (please come back) etc.

I agree with that. I would be in favor of more variety of court speeds. Some fast, some medium, some slow. That way every type of player gets a fair shot.

BTW, I'm a big Federer fan myself and with faster courts he probably would have won even more than he has done already. But having said that, I don't find grinding unattractive either. I mean, a guy like Djokovic who gets back balls that would be impossible to get to for everyone else and manages to hit a meaningfull shot - to me that's just as spectacular as a winner.

But yeah, a greater variety of court speeds would be better.

I guess my faves growing up have always been ultra aggressive (Pierce and Sampras then Fed and Masha) and defense was never something I valued...some would say I need to appreciate it more. I guess the way I play as well has also affected how I think about it.

I can honestly say that Roger Federer and Martina Hingis are the only two of my faves throughout the years of whom I became a fan based exclusively on their game. Other than those two my faves (Caroline, Maria, Li, Chrissie, Capriati, Connors, Becker) include players who all have a very different type of game from one another - aggressive baseliners, grinders, serve & volleyers, touch players, etc. I think that sometimes people take me defending 'pushers' as an attack on ball bashers which is not the case. I find ball bashing very enjoyable to watch when they are painting the lines and they are on. But when they miss four times out of five I also find it extremely ugly. What it comes down to I guess is that I find every type of tennis fun to watch if it's well executed.

Halep is kind of Kirilenko. Tries to do everything like big girls but is lightweight. As soon as she is recognised a top player, her opponents will be fighting with more motivation against her, coaches will prepare right tactics against her and she will be done. This fall she was just in top physical form , whereas most of her opponents were exhausted.

How about we give Halep a chance to see how she benefits from her higher ranking at big events to start 2014 before we start saying "she will be done?" God, she just reached #11 in the world, deservedly so, and have no idea how she will translate these great results into next year. I think it's just premature to say she won't have any chance against the top players, since we haven't seen her play any since earning this ranking. If she flops in her first tournaments of 2014, then maybe it's okay to say something like this

i see you're a kind of fan of this girl, but destiny of Radwanskas, Erranis and Haleps is more predictable than elections in Russia It's Ferrers, Tipsarevics of WTA.

I'm just saying that the girl has been part of the Top 20 for like a day and a half, let's wait and see how she performs where it counts in the early events of 2014 before labeling her as an "Errani". Being labeled a "Radwanska" isn't the worst thing in the world (I say this as I wash my mouth out with soap)

^ this

Also, I find the court in London ridiculous today, the ball bounces higher than a clay court.
