the GM results thread is discussed more between Serena fans, than fans of Maria's own forum

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Reminiscences of Green Grass

I already said so much on twitter, I don't have the strength anymore to do it here... I just feel worse every passing minute.
I didn't even eat in 12 hours and now I'm going to fill the void in my soul with food.

Yeah. I love Maria's ROS in 2009 when she just came back and didn't have a serve. Her ROS were stunning in the summer of that year.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Reminiscences of Green Grass

It's really odd, because evidently she wasn't playing well today, and I'm sure seeing her in GOAT form is a sigh to behold BUT. Seeing her live today, with how messy she was, she just looked like a pedestrian tennis player. Barely any serve, forehand was a mess. Think I counted two bhcc winners - her trademark. A near exclusive amount of acute angles. I mean WTF IS HOGGY TEACHING HER?

I think you can't judge her coach by today. She was bad in every way, how can you say what he's teaching her or not?
If anything, I noticed already with Mladenovic that she still kept hitting too much spin on the ball, like it was still clay. But maybe it's just me or she hadn't adapted to the surface yet... don't really know what to think. :\

Can't sleep.
To reply to this.. If she wants to adapt to the surface, she will need two full weeks of actually playing and training on the surface like in 2011 and not dwell or WAG...

Wonder if Maria is still allowed to play Mixed or if it's too late.

I feel that Maria was really concerned moving to the backhand side of the side hat she fell THREE times. I noted at all the games she lost were that she was at that side. That Michelle bitch was really really such a bitch by hitting the ball to that left corner ALL THE TIMES once she knew Maria wasn't comfortable moving to that direction. Basically her backhand on that side of the court was gone. She didn't want to put pressure or lose balance because there was a chance of slipping over if she would unleash the backhand. Was a shame as she tried to stay longer by adding more top spins but then it gave her opponent so much time to add pace and create angle. Had she not slipped, she would have more confidence in her groundstrokes and focus more on hunting her opponent down rather than worrying about her movement. It just occupied her whole mind during the match that you could feel she was telling herself not to fall.

To be honest, after the last slip, I believe she should not keep fighting this match on this court because she would have ended up with an injury like Wozniacki and would affect her US summer. She saved herself three times from an ankle injury however stained some muscles. Who knows what's gonna happen next? For once, I really feel glad she lost today as I know she's gonna come back strong in the US summer. We all know how long a sprained ankle kept her away from the game 2011 anyone?

I was so fucking frustrated with her return today. The ones on break points

A 2 minute clip of her missed returns... Nearly all are 2nd serves.

Bad returning

This doesn't include the second shots misses she had which were also frustrating.

What a ridiculous day at Wimbledon. Vika, Ivanovic, Jankovic, Woz, Sharapova. Plus Tsonga, Fed, Cilic, and Isner.

Re: Wimbledon 2013: Reminiscences of Green Grass

When you watch how error-prone she is with her groundstrokes and returns, you have to think it must be a mechanical issue. Whether it's her arms, her footwork, or bad timing, the lack of consistency is hurting her. Not just today, but in many matches against Serena, Vika, and Li that she lost and even matches that she won.

She needs to find something that can continue to separate herself from other players. And not just her will and "fighting spirit". Her game needs something. And since we know many other players have superior movement and athleticism and equal or better power, I think Maria needs to find consistent accuracy to give her an advantage. But with her high risk game, that's the conundrum. How does she find that happy medium of retaining her power, but still having a good enough margin for error with her shots.

She needs to find it because, as we've seen in many big matches, when her shots go off, they really collapse and she turns into an extremely average player who can get routined by anyone. She can't rely on anything else, so she needs those groundies and return to be there. As much good as Thomas has done for her, I see these parts of her game deteriorating and needs to be addressed as quickly as possible if she wants to remain a top 5 player in the next 3 years.
