Serena surely can't say she has nothing to lose going into this part of the season and next years clay season

I only see Serena having trouble with pressure during the US Open to be honest.

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

Well, back in January, I did say that I felt the major Serena would most likely win would be the French. When you look at the circumstances last year, losing to Razzano in the first round and then having to watch Maria win it to complete a career slam, that was all the fuel Serena needed to make RG '13 the top priority. Serena is at her most dangerous when she has something specific to motivate her.

This French Open was the most dominant she's been since last year's Olympic games. Nothing about this tournament surprised me.

It also wouldn't shock me if Serena's run through Wimbledon will be bumpier than the French, even though grass is her best surface, because that deep incentive isn't as great as last year or as intense as this year's RG. Then again, this is Serena we're talking about, so she very well could go out there and win every Wimbledon match 6-0, 6-1.

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

I think when Serena uses the term 'I have nothing to lose', she means she has achieved many grand slams and done pretty much everything by now so any more wins from now on will just be icing on the top.

Serena has said herself that she too gets nervous. She doesn't think she's the best.

I agree... and you can see it from her reaction when she broke back for *1-2 in the first set of the final. She would have won the match anyway but that was the turning point of that set, had she gone down 0-3 maybe Maria could've won the first.

Normally stays in Europe. She might have a couple of days off but not long enough to bother travelling back and forward between the States.

I think she did that last year, too.
But then, she had the Olympics last year so I confused it with her going home after the W.

P.S. wanted to good rep you in NT but I gotta spread some rep 1st.
I thought I'd mention that now that this thread is technically dead, so I'm not spamming

This^ she confirmed it at her presser. Also her mom goes to Sochi and then joins her in London.

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

It's fine.

I know she went home between W and OG. She had the Sugarpova factory in Spain and was pictured at that Spanish player's academy where she trained for the clay run between RG and W. She only had 3/4 days off so while she was doing other things, I thought they were based in EU and not US considering she would only have had a few hours to do anything there.

Does she still rent out that same house when she's in London?

I really don't know.
Last time I heard she rented was a few years ago.
I hope she does. Hotels don't give the sense of normalcy.

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

Yeah last time I heard her mention it was I think 2010, she had a nice pre-tourny interview in The Telegraph or The Guardian or Independant, one of those sort . I'm sure her "not all butterflies and rainbows" quote comes from the same one. She's a creature of habit so I doubt she changed the formula in the past couple of years.
