The majority of the Maria themed threads probably have a 70/30 participation between Serena and Masha posters
Maybe they fear one day a switch will go off in Maria and she finally gets that win over Serena after 9 long years. And in getting that win the rivalry might turn a corner. It's a tough task for Maria but it's not a completely out there of an idea. And Maria is still around, she's not a one Slam wonder like so many of them dismissed of her in the past.

I am so happy about yesterday's win. It had been a while since I had wanted her to win a match so much.
That first set was glorious.

My point is Maria you need to hit the ball as hard as you can from the 1st or 2nd ball, I know It maybe error after error but if you don't hit hard, Serena will kill this rally with a powerful winner. So maybe Nick means “Only way you can win it is hit the ball as hard as you can”
This, it seems that's a tactic too, I recall Maria saying that she wins more than 50% of the long rallies. Girl, you need to pull the trigger after a good serve.

That's the way Maria beat Serena at 2004 Wimbledon, by hitting the balls fearlessly.

Other than 2007, when Maria's shoulder was hurting, all of Maria's humiliating losses to Serena came after Hogstedt. Under Hogstedt, Maria keeps the ball in play, instead of hitting the ball as hard as she can. In 2012 Miami, that strategy worked out beautifully when Na Li hit more than 60 UE's, but backfired terribly when Maria played Aga at the final.

The best thing I saw in both Maria's QF and SF matches, is that Maria has gone back to her instinct and hit the ball as hard as she can, that probably prompted Nick Bollettieri to utter his now infamous tweet.

It's now clear that Maria withdrew from Rome so that she didn't play Serena again until the final of 2013 RG. It should be an interesting match, to say it mildly.

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

To echo what most of you said, she really has nothing to lose (as much as I hate this phrase). Hoping for the Wimbledon 04 parallels to happen: 3 setters QF and SF, rain delay saving Martha's ass in SF while Sarin promptly cruised. Sarin top seed and overwhelming favourite, Martha already half way to her runner-up trophy. I know I'm clutching at straws here...

Runner-up is good and respectable and all, but it's time, Martha, to finally get that win against Sarin, and defend your GS title for once!

Channeling my inner fake fan I shall go for drinks and get completely wasted during the match, I've learnt my lesson during last year's Olympics

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

yes, Maria has to hit every ball really hard, people say that her plan A is hit hard and her plan B is hit harder, but i think she never hit hard against Serena, and she has to aim for a winner and not hit to Serena, it doesn't matter if it's gonna be out, because sometimes even hard hitted balls in out look sick with power and you only think "thank god this was out"

come on Maria!

Both the full matches of Masha's QF and SF are available through the Pirate Bay if you wanna re-watch them - you'll need a Bittorrent client to be able to download the matches

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

Dear SS.. I don't post here much anymore but wanted to leave a little message. I've been incredibly lucky to receive tickets to tomorrow's final! I have casually followed this years French Open, not getting too invested as I knew I had tickets to the final, and I knew that my dream would be to see Maria defending her title in the final.. It wasn't until match point versus Azarenka that I let myself think I could be watching Maria in a Grand Slam Final! (Then she lost all those match points and my heart was racing!) But amazingly she pulled through and I cannot believe I will watch her try to defend her title live in person. I just wanted to post and say that, because if anyone in the world understands how lucky I feel right now, it's you guys in SS!! I want to take all your positivity with me to Paris and support Maria in tomorrow's final on behalf of her fans here.

Now onto the match... It's a big task for Maria, but not impossible. And as fans we've witnessed every kind of match following Maria, bagels, breadsticks, double bagels, complete blowouts, heart breaking losses, spectacular victories... We've seen it all! So I know that as much as we would love Maria to win tomorrow we are prepared for any outcome. And we will still be supporting her on Sunday!

I will be extremely positive tomorrow, I'll cheer for Maria on behalf of you all! You never know, maybe that will be te key! Haha! I hope we all enjoy the final whatever the result, and for now let's just bask in the glory of Maria making back to back French Open finals!!! Who would have thought it?!

Re: Roland Garros 2013 : La reine Maria de retour dans son jardin

We'd more than 4,000 posts for 2012 RG but less than 1,000 this year. The difference is clear, Serena was out after 1R last year, but she will play Maria for final this year.

May be we'll add another 3,000 post after Saturday if Maria is able to beat Serena.
