not that I hope for things like this to happen, I want Masha to face tough opponents all the time to justify title wins
You still have 7 of the top 10 showing up, so I wouldn't call it a complete flop. The only real difference is Vika not being there. Last year's final will always be one of Maria's crowning career achievements, so not having Azarenka is a loss. But Serena didn't play it last year anyway. So I still see plenty of potential challenges for Maria there.

Charleston is the joke clay tournament. They should name it the Serena Williams Invitational.

It would be a dream and I agree

Wut!? I was sure Serena was going to play Stuttgart now I want her to retain Stuttgart even more! Maybe with a classic clay match vs Na.

Yeah indeed... for me it's even harder, I'd like to see Sara go deep in a premier and not having to face Maria for it

Vika on clay is not like Vika on hardcourt. Someone like Li Na is a bigger threat to Maria on clay than Vika would be. That's what I think anyway.

Definitely intrigued by the potential match with Bouchard, since they're kind of friends. It will certainly be a glamorous match . Would love to see her play Kuzzy or Ana, definitely not Zako or Errani

how is 7 top10 players is vulturing when its not even a big tournament? Especially from the missing 3 only 1 can be actual force on clay. People throwing some words around so easily.

I would love if she defended her title here, then make it 3 in a row in Rome and then two in a row in RG.

I don't think she'll be tired , she managed to do this feat last year in 2005 and in 2006 as well I mean reaching the final .

Vika has been improving on it though. She's become the kind of player that wants to get better at everything, including playing on clay. I think she'll be a contender at the French this year.

And we know Li Na is a threat to Maria on any surface. She's just one reason why Stuttgart will still be a big challenge for Maria, even without Azarenka and Serena.

Funny how Maria has never won the same event three times yet (despite winning four Tokyo-based events) Rome could be another milestone in her career

Re: Miami 2013: Hometown Glory?

Many think that Vika is a scrub on clay, but in fact she really isn't and shouldn't be underestimated at all! Na is obviously a bigger threat. I saw her live in Rome last year and she was so impressive! Definitely Maria's toughest matchup. I'm not even considering Serena anymore! I've lost hope!

Yeah, I guess you have a point. You can't really dismiss someone like Vika on any surface.
