Her "say cheese" smile that accompanied her rant. The bigger point is that she 's being accusatory and slanderous towards people who have not committed the "crime".
She's being as ridiculous as a future Vika stan blogger putting the blame for the crowd's reaction this year at Rod Laver Arena squarely on the head of LLeyton Hewitt/Sam Stosur/... (whoever would be the AO tournament boss in the year 2027).

Re: Indian Wells Tainted? Charlie Pasarell - Only himself to Blame?
Indian Wells tournament does not need the Williams Sister's period, it is a huge event as Miami, even with better much newer buildings, much more improved in tecnology as well, and ALL TOP players go there besides WS.
On counter part the Williams sisters does not need Indian Wells either.
Plus WS FANS should really put all of this BS racism on Indian Wells behind them, its really ridiculous to accuse of racism around there when "only them" were the ones affected. And they are not the only black-african american playing there from the start.
You dont see players stating that there is racism around the event either so stop the crap.
That incident came in the days it was rumored that Daddy Williams manipulated results between them and the crowd was all over that WO given to Serena. Eventhough Venus was perfectly fine in her QF vs Dementieva and more so that only 2 weeks later she was winning Miami, so doubts everywhere.

As expected the WS haters are always looking through a different prism. Anyway that tournament and Pasarell will forever be associated with that ugly incident. How can they be considered the so called "5th" slam when the 2 best American players for the past 12 yrs REFUSED to play an American tournament because of racism. No amount of money can erase the tarnished history of that tournament.

I love this site. It never fails having experts dictate what constitutes as racism/prejudice, what slights are real or should be forgotten. Coming here, you'd think racism or any form of ugliness that even hints at it is all but in the past and something of history books.
What happened at Indian Wells, to a young American, should never have happened. What happened at Indian Wells was not okay, but those people felt they had the right and license to treat Serena that way much like Elena Dementieva felt it was okay to joke about Richard deciding who would win between the sisters. Those fans would not have booed and booed lustily Andy or Jennifer. A whole damn match. No apology or recognition that something out of the ordinary happened, and writers want Serena to return so the same fans can receive Serena with warmth they somehow forgot way back when.
And as for the just them don't act like the Williams outsider, not bowing down to the higher ups wasn't a contrast to other players who the majority of Indian Wells would find acceptable to their palate like a James Blake.

What do attendance records have to do with it?? Did the author or poster say anything about attendance records being down? Talk about bringing up a point that no one ever made

Dont be such a hypocrite, as most of you Williams Sisters Fan would love the event to be suffering consequences because of what happened in 200l1, eg low attendance, top players withdraws, and stuff. Actually the opossite happens, Indian Wells continues to grow up and strong as an event year by year. Deal with that..
Do you really think that if by any case there would be a feeling of harm towards to one comunity (black in this case) in this tournament at all do you think it could be going as it has been going since then..

You call that racism, great for you afterall is the easiest card to go with. But one thing is sure Venus and Serena ARE NOT the only african american tennis players to play that event, and since they have kept the coming back to play the event year by year, there is not really a real indication of what happened in 2001 was racism at all.

Did Ellison with his U$ 43 billion net worth paid a penny for this tournament when he took over?

I call what happened unfortunate. I also believe it wouldn't have happened to a white American player. I am forever amazed at the vehement denials by people such as yourself to make all kinds of excuses about why that incident happened. There was no justifiable reason period.
I am not gay, but I have no need to tell a gay person what is or isn't homophobic. Just as I am not a woman and don't have this urge to school women on what is sexism. There is no race card to play. The easiest thing is and always will be for someone to dismiss racism. It happens here all the time and elsewhere. Race, for those who have to deal with it on a daily basis, is a reality, not a fucking card.

Re: Indian Wells Tainted? Charlie Pasarell - Only himself to Blame?
They were right to boycott. Besides, my guess is most people that like the tournament don't want to see them anyway. lol
People often talk about the success of the tournament as if that is supposed to justify or nullify racism. Even if it wasn't racism and was just pure 19 year old Serena hate, they are still right to boycott.
