Re: Legend Hingis admits on twitter she thought on coming back when beat Serena in WT
Serena has a knack for bringing out the competitive nature of every opponent she encounters. I guess it's due to her name, personality, tennis skills, and legendary status. However, I truly believe a 5-time slam champion with Hingis ego would never be satisfied as a glorified doubles specialist.
I could see her play a few tournaments to reminisce on the good times but never commit to playing on the doubles tour. I truly believe Hingis really wants to come back and play singles but she is fully aware that she can't physically handle the style change, power, and grind of the tour.

She's 32, not 42.
It's not like she's Clijsters or Davenport who are really invested in their family, children, their new life.

i agree big part. i mean i respect her decition a lot, but im sad she doesnt make a comeback in doubles. even though she only played slams and premier mandatory, like you know, 13 tournaments a year or something like this it would be great. i really think she was gonna comeback with davenport before she got pregnant again

Hingis just loves to entertain her own ego in public. It's actually rather hilarious.
The tour life would be so arduous and unrelenting for her at this stage in her life, it'd just be nonsensical to try and assume her former position in top flight tennis. People forget how behind the pace she started to look in '06/07 by the end, beset by injury and basically being out-hit by any decent ball-striker out there, as well as being QF fodder at Slams.
She needs to stop titillating her fans. Her career is long since over.

I totally agree with this. She likes to think that she's still relevant in tennis even in this day and age. She likes to think that she's still the best in the world and could dominate the tour. Let's face it tho, she'd never dominate the tour even in double. I think it's part of the reason she doesn't come back, she knows she wouldn't be dominant but she likes to let her fans and people think that she could.

I completely agree with everything you've stated here, but especailly the highlighted text. Which is likely why she finally decided not to return.
It was like that when she left, and now even more players are playing that same style that her game isn't effective against.
I think that Hingis could honestly be able to 'compete' with this style, but not be as effective like she was in her prime, whether it be Doubles or Singles.
Maybe she had a nice long conversation with some coaches and her mother, and reality won out.

Re: Legend Hingis admits on twitter she thought on coming back when beat Serena in WT
It's ironical that she recently admitted her retirement was influenced by the 'fear factor' against the WS coz of their big hitting style, she felt she could no longer compete with them
...some1 plse bump that thread, can't remember the title

Re: Legend Hingis admits on twitter she thought on coming back when beat Serena in WT
Three years ago, when Hingis had done her time and served her sentence, I was one of those calling for her to take advantage of the then low tide in the WTA and come back one more time to complete unfinished business. It was the Woz "era" with top players injured and out and a broken strata in between. If only Hingis really got herself fit.
Trouble with Hingis is that she likes to win, hence pairing Davenport and playing Legends and never losing until it got silly beating up older women who were just there to have a bit of fun. But she isn't prepared to sacrifice.
Now? It's over, over, OVER. Never ever.
