Players who won big titles without coach?

Big titles = any event Premier and above.

We should have a list of these players, because it's not happening often.

I think Serena will be frequent in this list?

Serena and Venus didn't need Richard that much once they knew how to win big matches.

Re: Players who won big titles without coach?

Serena and Venus. i really don't get why they kept emphasizing on Patrick as a good addition and good ear, when we all know Serena is her own coach, She just wanted a new coach cause Mom and Dad don't like to travel anymore. Specially Serena, she knows what she is doing wrong, if she is hitting too early, or the ball toss is this or that. She knows how to abbreviate her serve and groundstrokes by herself.

Re: Players who won big titles without coach?

I think all of Wozniacki's titles should be here because having Piotler on court is worse than having no coach

My opinion as well.
I recall a good while back Richard telling the media that he's training them to make their own on-court decisions. He went on to say that that is why his girls could be found reading notes during their matches.
I've followed Serena even before she turned pro, and I've come to realize that she does exceptionally well when accompanied by a male figure. I have yet to see or hear Patrick give her coaching advice while she's on court. He's often shown quite emotionless, which is what I've noticed works best for Serena. In that sense, he makes for a perfect coach. Serena probably told him to simply sit down, shut up, and watch her play. And if she screws up, then tell her after the match is over.

Re: Players who won big titles without coach?

Do you mean the coach wasn't at the event or that they didn't have a coach at that time? It's very different because a coach can still give helpful advice (before a match) without being on-site.

IMO that's an over-rated aspect of coaching. Except for players who have a tough time with their mental game it's really shows that the coach/team didn't do their jobs well. Either way it's the most minor part of coaching.

Yeah, and sometimes while watching and listening to the on-court coaching, I've gotten the sense that the players often aren't in the frame of mind to listen, since the coaching often occurs at a time when these players are losing the match.

But as to your point, I completely agree that it indicates a failure on the front-end.

Coaching the newly-turned pros is something that I would expect.
However, after a player reaches top 20, 10, 5, or 3, you'd think that the player has enough experience under the belt to fend for themselves... after all the time spent with their coach to get such a high rank.
