Most Surprising Junior Slam Winner

Admittedly, I'm not a great follower of the junior tour. I sometimes show an interest in the slams but often forget who has won what. I thought I'd educate myself a bit and research all the previous junior slam winners. There were a number of surprises! My biggest were:

Nicole Pratt 1991 AO
Rossana de los Rios 1992 FO
Virginie Razzano 2000 AO

There are also a number of players I'm surprised never won one!

(Also, as if Leander Paes won both junior Wimbledon and junior US Open in singles!)

Have a look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...gles_champions

Bulgaria got six, never knew.
I've never heard of Heike Rusch so I'll go with her.

Re: Most Surprising Junior Slam Winner

de los rios was a very promising junior, but she sacrified career for getting married to a football player and then having a baby with him

she even had few years off at some point

aleksandra olsza winner from nowhere, went into nowhere this thai recent wimbledon winner (noppawan with long surname) also looks like a piece of crap

Re: Most Surprising Junior Slam Winner

What a GOAT year 1995 was

It seems years go in cycles like 2001/2005 Good year for the most part, 1999/2000/2004 hot mess years .

Re: Most Surprising Junior Slam Winner

Pratt, Del Los Rios and Razzano are definitely not the most surprising winners.

which is impossible as nowadays you must be at least 13 to play ITF junior events.

Olsza a winner from nowhere? She was a very good junior (peaked at world #2) and won a warm-up event in grass that year without losing a set (including 62 62 over Black and 62 61 over Marosi). Then in Wimbledon won the title beating not other than grass goat Tanasugarn in straight sets in the final. She also won the doubles title there.

She started her pro career with stellar results beating world #12 Magdalena Maleeva at the USO, reaching quarterfinals at WTA Pattaya, winning a match in Wimbledon, all this being just 18. She later went on to represent Poland in 1996 Olympics and reached the top 75 before retiring at the age of 21. Sure she was not a megastar but she is definitely not one of the worst in that list.

Plus she's got the most epic website ever

She still has a website, what does she do now???

Heike Rusch hasn't even a wikipedia page, I'll go with her as most random.

Re: Most Surprising Junior Slam Winner

Heather's win at US Open was a big surprise. No one really knew about her until that time, she also got a big advantage over younger favorites Gavrilova and Robson, when quartefinals and semifinals were played in the same day because of hurricane.
