I can't believe I've come into this cesspool thread, but I have purely to say, Maria my signature is prepping itself for pictures of you and dat trophy. Don't fuck this up. Lets be real here, this is easier than a bus full of catholic school girls.

No offence, but

Winning Roland Garros put her in the history books for so many reasons. Winning the Career Slam, winning a Slam after surgery, returning back to number one after surgery, and just winning a fourth Slam in general are just a few.

Except for us fans, no one will be mentioning her winning Stuttgart beating Kvitova and Azarenka over winning a Career Slam once she's retired.

oh my that Vika results thread is both a treat and a horror show to watch evolve.
I suppose it gives us a break from defending Masha in GM for like 24 hours

I don't really believe that winning slams for WTA players is any more difficult than other, more condensed, tournaments. Slams are much more a mental game than a physical one, since there is plenty of time for physical recovery, while winning some stacked Premier like Stuttgart requires both. It's not ATP, where you have to grind out 7 best-of-5 matches. That's why I believe a title count should be a better representative when judging female best players of all time rather than sometimes misleading slam titles
I'm actually willing to meet you about halfway there. The four majors are the ones that go down in the history books, so I would rather win one of them than any other tournament. But physically winning a premier mandatory/premier5 is often harder because you don't have, as you say, a day of rest between matches. And there are virtually no scrubs in them either - so an "easy draw" is impossible. When people talk about easy draws in premier mandatorys or premier5's they mean compared to other players, but you still have to beat a good player in almost every round. Because of all that I still consider Clijsters winning Indian Wells and Miami back to back in 2005 the greatest achievement of her career. Bigger even than her slams or YEC's. And if Maria would win both of them back to back I would feel the same way. But since the tennis community has one huge slam fetish I would if I had to settle for one or the other still prefer that Maria (or moonballniacki ) won a slam instead of the IW/M double. I guess that achievement wise the YEC is the biggest title in womens tennis. Five matches in six days - all of them against fellow greats. It doesn't get any harder than that.

What everyone thinks or says doesn't matter. It's only an issue for a couple of days anyway. In the future when people look at the list of former champions and they see 2013: Maria Sharapova nobody will give a fuck about any of that stuff anymore.

Re: INDIAN WELLS 2013- Hunterpova seeks revenge!

Chrissie-fan is right. At first after this year's AO a lot of people were saying how Vika was really lucky to win it and had a very easy draw but that blew out in a couple of weeks. And anyways haters will always be haters...I'm sure that if Vika didn't withdraw and Maria still won the title they'd blame it on the fact she was injured What's important is she wins this nothing else

Re: INDIAN WELLS 2013- Hunterpova seeks revenge!

Maria has a great chance here to: a) snatch #2 away from Vika and b) end a way-too-long drought of HC tournament victories.
I hope she does not blow it up.....come on, Maria!

you're far from being right, Slams differ from all event by the motivation which players have before each match..... it's another league.

It's like, you know, final exams at school

But still Maria is so popular and has so much fans and antifans because she has not only won Slams , but she beat best players of her time to do it..... Azarenka won 2 Slams and still less popular than slamless Wozniacki. If she had won that US open Final , she would have become much more respected in the world and would have gained enormous number of fans .. This lucky opportunistic second Slam added more haters than gave her popularity, respect, recognition, sponsors etc

Re: INDIAN WELLS 2013- Hunterpova seeks revenge!

When you think about it, to win IW or Miami, you need to win 6 matches in a row. So are the slams defined by that extra one match?
Because you can face just as tough a route to a premier title as you could a slam. Must suck for the likes of JJ, Vera and Caro who achieved premier status over slam wins.

Ofc I would rather Masha win one slam in 2013 then 2-3 premier titles
