Re: Maria in Doha 2013!

She is sick, but wanted her appearence fee (which must be big in Qatar) so she just played 3 games and bye-bye. I hope she will be healed for Dubai and play for real.

..but somehow, it was to expect, after she got sick at Moscow just some days ago...but still I hoped she could win 1 or 2 matches at Doha

well, obviously she needs some rest now, to come back strong for the next tournaments. All the best Maria

On the bright side she hadn't got to defend many points (R2 last year)... but still it was a good chanche to improve her ranking.

It seems she has a shoulder injury... It's worse than I expected

I hope it's not that bad.

right, that's even worse
an injured shoulder may give her much more trouble than a cold...
let's hope the best

That's what I didn't want to hear. I'm so worried, I really hope that the situation is not too serious... damn, she was playing so good, what a shame.

Re: Maria in Doha 2013!

Kiri being injured playing while tired is what I was afraid of. It was just ridiculous for Kiri to play Doha when she needed atleast one week of rest to get over her cold and weary body. For her to retire after 3 games is scary. If she went there for an appearance fee as some have said then that was a terrible move. She should be making better decisions in her 11th season on the WTA Tour. There was no way she should have travelled to Doha being ill and tired. Where was her father and coach Yuri to protect her? Maria is engaged to an ultra wealthy athlete and she has her own millions of dollars. For her to do anything for the money is silly and now her trying to play while tired has gotten her injured as well as ill. A damn shame. I hope Kiir is well soon but she may need a couple weeks away from tennis to rest up and get better. I sure hope her right shoulder is okay.

On Twitter Kiri said she hurt her shoulder in practice and it got worse during her short match. She really needs to play a smarter schedule. Why her handlers couldn't talk her out of Doha is beyond me. Maria couldn't play in the Fed Cup on sunday yet she tries to play a match 2 days later in Doha? Doha is not importnant. Dubai is not important. Being ready for RG and Wimbledon is important and now Maria has to make sure her shoulder is fine before she play her next tournament. Also cutting doubles from her schedule should be good for the wear and tear on her right shoulder. But a shoulder injury for a tennis player is worrisome. Masha usaully plays through pain but couldn't today. I hope she gets well soon.

So true. And unlike Big Masha who has broad shoulders Makiri has a thin upper body and thin shoulders so her shoulder joints take the brunt of the wear and tear of practice and matches. We can only hope Kiri who is off to her best start of any year in her career just has a sore shoulder that rest can heal. But I can tell Masha is chomping at the bit to play alot and make the top 10 this year. Now she has to realize she can't do anything in tennis if she is not healthy. Poor Kiri.

Re: Maria in Doha 2013!

I think the next time Kiri plays tennis it will be in Indian Wells in a few weeks. She could use the break to get well and heal that shoulder.

Re: Maria in Doha 2013!

She has no big points to defend in Dubai so it would be wise to skip it indeed. Shoulder injuries are some of the worst for tennis player (Sharapova didn't play for 1 year, I also remember Coria unable to serve and retiring...). I really hope it's just fatigue and she will be fine to defend her Indian Wells QF.
