Kvitova is the only other one from her generation to win a slam (Wimbledon).
Wozniacki and Radwanska's got 1 slam final each to their resumé and reach number 1 & 2 respectively.

So what made Azarenka the most successful of her peers from generation suck thus far? Why didn't Petra reach her potential? Did Wozniacki peak too early?
She's a fierce competitor. She's got the physical stature and ability. She PLAYS BIG and aggressive - strikes pure, hitting hard flat groundies and is CONSISTENT, is mobile enough, and embraces the moment.

You can measure all the other girls you mentioned by those standards and see where they fall short, and you'll have your answer.

She is the most well rounded on tour right now, the epitome of mediocrity.

Her confidence and determination plays a big part in it. Not to mention she's just a fantastic player.

Nobody is here for Masha's new grunt. Hoping it's just the flu, it was lower in Stuttgart but not delayed. Perhaps shrieking will resume as normal in Paris.

Re: What made Azarenka successful?

Simply because shes better than Radwanska, Kvitova, Wozniacki. She has an allround game with weapons without big weaknesses, unlike the other three.

Re: What made Azarenka successful?

She doesn't give up when loosing, she's always trying to turn things around and especially with her return game, it's possible against player outside of Serena (sometimes Pova). That's a champion mentality, unlike Radwanska, she always throw the towel when in a loosing position, Kvitova will likely go UE overboard, wozniacki will try to change her gameplan which results in UE.

Re: What made Azarenka successful?

Azarenka is absolutely nothing special. Her movement isn't special, her shots aren't special, she's not a smart player, she doesn't have much variety. What she does have though is power, I suppose. That's all you need to do well on the women's tour unfortunately. Lots of power and lots of ballbashing. Just learn how to keep the ball in with a little power and you'll win multiple slams.

The weaker and more talented players never get to shine because of this. Azarenka is just as guilty as the other ballbashers for taking away their spotlight. She's successful because she hits a big ball. That's it pretty much, unfortunately.

You seriously think she's a ballbasher? You're not serious, are you?

What else is she? A baseliner? A tactical player? She can be debatably be called a solid baseliner but I'd compare players like to grinders more than anything else. Azarenka isn't a grinder.

She's not an outright ballbasher because she's not the most powerful on tour but what else can she be classed as? She's a ballbasher but a very tame example. That's about it. There's nothing else really special about her game.

Re: What made Azarenka successful?

Nothing special? Are you suggesting that her return game and her backhand to say the least are both average? If she was the sort of player you were describing her to be she wouldn't be a dual slam winner and #1 for all those weeks.

And if she's just a ballbasher with nothing special as you suggest, then why does super tactical genius Radwanska struggle to beat Azarenka every single time?
